Lana Del Rey, an Artificial Creation?

Jan 25th, 2012 | Category: Latest News | 332 comments

In a very short period of time, an enigmatic singer named Lana Del Rey went from complete anonymity to the front page of magazines, not to mention intense internet buzz and an SNL appearance. But along with this (almost literal) overnight success came revelations regarding the rising star: She is a total creation of her management team. When her previous artist persona named Lizzie Grant became a monumental flop, she underwent intense retooling including: A new name (which was assigned to her by her label), plastic surgery, a new musical style, a new image and a new marketing strategy. She is now signed with Interscope, Lady Gaga’s label.

The same way Stefani Germanotta was “revamped” to become Lady Gaga – a fake persona that fits the requirements of today’s music industry – Lizzie Grant was revamped as Lana Del Rey. Will this alter-persona be used to push the Illuminati agenda in the future?

[wp_ad_camp_1]

Here’s an article about Lana Del Rey’s “creation” from The Guardian.

Lana Del Rey: The strange story of the star who rewrote her past

Lizzy Grant was a flop, changed her name to Lana Del Rey and was acclaimed as a new star. But the backlash from fans who felt duped has been unprecedented

You can still find traces of Lizzy Grant online. There is a video, dated 8 June 2009, that shows a young, casually dressed blonde woman in a green T-shirt and jeans singing alone on stage at a New York music show called The Variety Box. Grant’s voice was strong, but she seemed shy and spoke quietly to the audience to a smattering of applause.

Grant looked like any one of hundreds of young artists trying to make it in the clubs and bars of New York, singing their hearts out in the hope that one day they would be spotted. After all, that’s how big names from Bob Dylan to Lady Gaga got their breaks. But success never happened to Lizzy Grant. Her one and only album sank virtually without trace.

However, fame did happen to someone called Lana Del Rey, a 25-year-old sultry, seductive songstress who is the current hottest name in US music and whose debut album is one of the most eagerly awaited events in the industry this year. It comes out on 31 January.

Del Rey’s image is nothing like Grant’s. The video for her new song, provocatively called Born to Die, is slick and lavishly produced. The short film begins with her posing half-naked with a tattooed, shirtless man in front of the stars and stripes, then shows her sitting on a throne in a figure-hugging white dress flanked by two tigers. By the end of the video, she is covered in blood, wearing only a red bra. It is over-the-top and wildly eccentric.

But that suits Del Rey’s sound. Her soaring vocals and melodies, reflecting genres as diverse as hip hop and indie music, have won millions of fans. And Del Rey has quite a story to tell. After first appearing on the internet last year with an apparently home-produced video of a song called Video Games, she became a cult hit. She married her music to a mysterious image, self-styled as a “gangster Nancy Sinatra”, that paid homage to 1960s fashions and seedy showbiz glamour. In an interview recently shot poolside at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, Del Rey explained her attraction to the notorious celebrity haunt. “It’s a place that has inspired so many of my videos and influenced a lot of my visuals,” she said through a mouth now framed by pouting, bee-stung lips.

Of course, Lana Del Rey and Lizzy Grant are the same person.

That revelation has made Grant/Del Rey one of the most controversial figures to emerge in US music for years. Some people feel victims of an immense confidence trick. When Video Games first went viral it became an underground sensation praised for its authentic feel. Del Rey’s amazing voice crooned the haunting song against a backdrop of grainy out-takes of home movies and Hollywood scenes. It currently has a staggering 20 million views on YouTube. The follow-up, Blue Jeans, with a similar feel, netted 6 million views. Del Rey’s few live gigs suddenly sold out. She won the Next Big Thing prize at the Q awards. She seemed set for the big time. But then questions were asked. A few critics began to wonder if, far from being some organic wunderkind, the transformation from Grant to Del Rey had been planned all along. Her stage name was chosen by her management. Rather than being an outsider struggling for recognition, Del Rey is in fact the daughter of a millionaire father who has backed her career. People were suspicious of the way Grant’s failed album, and all her social media websites, appeared to have been scrubbed from the internet just before Del Rey appeared. There has been much speculation as to exactly when Del Rey teamed up with her current label Interscope and how much influence their savvy marketers might have put into her original emergence.

“There are a lot of things that don’t seem organic about it,” said Steven Horowitz, who wrote a cover story about Del Rey for Billboard magazine. “She’s putting on a show. She’s here to entertain us.”

Suddenly, many of the fans that had boosted Del Rey turned on her in spectacular fashion. Music blogs poured vitriol on her talents. Some influential music websites, such as Hipster Runoff, have turned insulting Del Rey into an art form. Last weekend Del Rey appeared as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. She gave a hesitant, uncertain performance – suddenly more Lizzy Grant than Del Rey – that triggered brutal criticism.

Celebrities even got in on the act. Actress and musician Juliette Lewis tweeted: “Watching this ‘singer’ on SNL is like watching a 12-year-old in their bedroom when they’re pretending to sing and perform.” Even news anchor Brian Williams weighed in, sending an email that was later published on gossip website Gawker that called Del Rey’s performance one of the “worst outings in SNL history”.

But it is not just Del Rey’s music and SNL performance that is being hauled over the coals. It is also her appearance.

Pictures of Lizzy Grant when contrasted to Del Rey have led many to speculate that she has had collagen injections in her lips and perhaps even plastic surgery. It is a charge she vehemently denied in a recent interview. “I haven’t had anything done at all… I’m quite pouty. That’s just how I look when I sing,” she insisted.

Del Rey has many defenders too. “She is just a gorgeous creature,” said Noah Levy, senior news editor at In Touch Weekly magazine. Horowitz said that whatever the truth of her emergence there is little doubt about her talent or commitment. “I think she cares about the art that she is creating. I don’t think that is fake at all,” he said.

Despite the outrage directed at her, Del Rey is employing one of the oldest tricks in the book: the creation of a stage persona. Some of the greatest names have done it. David Bowie and Madonna are notorious shape-shifters. So is Lady Gaga. Changing from Lizzy Grant to Lana Del Rey is not unusual when you consider that Bob Dylan’s real name was Robert Zimmerman and Iggy Pop was born James Osterberg. “I think Lana Del Rey is manufactured. But when Lizzy Grant came out with music it failed. So she reinvented herself and it worked,” said Levy.

In fact, Lana Del Rey’s rise says much about the nature of modern fame in the US. The internet has allowed figures like her to come rapidly to the fore of the cultural landscape, whether or not their emergence is planned by a record executive or happens spontaneously from someone’s bedroom. It has speeded up the fame cycle. It is worth noting that the huge backlash to Del Rey is happening before her first album has even been released. This reveals a cultural obsession with the “authenticity” that fans, artists and corporations all prize above all else.

Cultural critics say genuine authenticity is almost impossible to achieve. “The whole idea of authenticity is elusive. It is in many ways a complete illusion,” said Professor Robert Thompson, a pop culture expert at Syracuse University. Others have simpler explanations for the stir Del Rey has caused, seeing misogyny against a female artist so willing to use sexuality as a way of selling her music. “There is a ‘mean girls’ attitude to some of it,” said Horowitz.

Either way it does not seem likely that Del Rey will be leaving the music scene any time soon. Sales of her new album are set to be astronomical. It has crept into Amazon’s top 25 in the US on pre-sales alone. She is booked for appearances on major talk shows. “Lana Del Rey can go anywhere that she wants to,” said Levy. “She’s going to one day be the cover of Rolling Stone.” Lizzy Grant may have failed to make it. But her next creation seems ready for stardom.

yes yes yes! I've been wanting a vigilant explanation ever since I heard her "born to die" performance last year at my friends house!!! Thanx VC! I knew she was all made up: plastic surgery, doesn't write her music, she used to be Lizzie Grant but it didn't work out so daddy helped her out…

    • CerebralGril says:

ooo one more thing…DO NOT LISTEN TO HER MUSIC…I swear if you do (especially "blue jeans" and "video games" they will be in your head FOREVER…the folks at interscope are super clever…i after i listened to blue jeans i couldn't get it out of my head! Listen to "Elvis" by Lizzie Grant, before she was Lana, so much better. It's actually sad.

I wonder if her fame is also attributed to her father is billionaire domain investor Robert Grant.

      • mexgulf says:

Where daddy helped her was in getting good agents, producers and access. I really don't find any issue in this article. The girl revamped her image (well, the boys and girls and Interscope did) to be successful in a business that, by everyday standards, would be called bizarre and weird. She is competing with dress up singers in the business. They all have an "image" and we all chase the image we like best. She is supposed to be an pop singer entertainer, not your local cocktail waitress.

I saw her on SNL, didn't know a thing about her, and thought she chose a poor song to sing. It translated on live TV like a chopped up vocal mismatch.

It would be fascinating if this has been a marketing ploy of Interscope. That thought reminded me of the Coca Cola flareup of several years ago. Even more interesting would be VC's thought that she may be a robot that the powers that be are trying out. Japan has done it with holographic images of a pop singer (VC did an article about it I believe) and they filled a concert hall with screaming fans lusting for their illusion. Maybe that is the biggest joke of all – at least those kids were being honest in their homage to "image", the imagination of our reflective identity.

Ya'll should check out phatfriend.com–it's blockheads blog and he just did an article about her. He's a producer and has worked with her directly before she really made it big, he said that even before she became popular she had that same style.

      • Pearl says:

I completely agree with you cerebral! I listened to "Blue Jeans," "Born to Die" and "Video Games" the weekend she was on SNL and those songs stayed in my head far longer than your average song. They're hypnotic to say the least. I believe these record labels study sound waves, the psychology of music, or whatever you want to call it. Pretty sick to think that sounds/'music' has that sort of influence.

      • LookAt'it says:

You should look at the video of (an ex -escort girl called) Zahia Dehar shooted by Greg William:

all of this supposed to be super cool, of course.

Thanks for the warning, I just had it in mind to check out what kind of songs she sings….never heard of her before!! Wondering if Gaga will get shoved aside soon and slowly fade?

Here is a very young Lizzy Grant aka Lana Del Rey w/ a young "friend"

        not good, not good.

All of this new pop music (I mistyped 'op' music, subconscious must be trying to tell me something) is engineered to stick in the brain as much as possible. I try not to listen to Gaga and her ilk because it's insanely catchy ('operative' word, insanely) so what better way to deliver info directly into the mind below the level of consicousness? Remember Dune, where sound became a weapon? There are now real experimental weapons that use sound. Gaga sounds like she is gargling rocks on Bad Romance, horrible strangling sounds paired with one hummable repetitive earworm hook after another. What is THAT about?

The entire universe vibrates…your organs vibrate, your atoms vibrate (however nothing vibrates at the same rate)…this has been common biological knowledge for a long time. I just wanted to kick the elite off their horse for a sec…they are NOT diabolically privy to "secret" science, as people might be inclined to think….in fact, most of the entire worlds situation in terms of being fed bullshit and essentially controlled has to do with our own ignorance (not your ignorance! I found your comment wonderful). I just think people give elite more credit than what is warranted and don't read enough critical literature and scientific facts on their own. Question everything and seek out knowledge. The problem is….we are all very very lazy and make way too many assumptions, minor and major, about the world as it is presented to us in school.

Sound is vibration…this explains why every culture loves music…and why music is used as a tool by people who want to play GOD be it your God or my God. I listened to this artist and watched her recent video with the car crash. The songs were not stuck in my head. The video was not really that cool. I know a lot about art, science and music so my mind is in auto-correct mode, I don't even have to shield myself from anything anymore…I have mastered the power of self-control through my own path of collecting information.

Usually, when I open another's eyes (on this topic because I read a lot of people who comment about how frustrating it is to try to explain most of the "worlds ways" to others) they listen. The reason they listen is I use fact, logic and reason.

If they won't listen to facts, logic and reason, which I present un-charged with personal emotion, I know my words will sink in eventually, as I also understand the anatomy of the brain and neuroscience…who you are today will change tomorrow, even if you spend your entire life in a dark room…it is in our nature to seek more knowledge than we do. And we don't because we allow ourselves to be distracted with the power of suggestion and assume we have it all figured out…

Theosophic Society originated in India, the same place that religion originated…this is a slice of the pie. I almost laugh at any artist or organization that uses vibration as a means of population control.

Vibratory energy can heal. It is our fault that currently, it is not used for this purpose. Point of this post is: don't shift blame, elite pieces of shit are not smarter, they spend more time and resources seeking information….

The name "Lana Del Rey" is backwords "yer led anal" and the word Rey is really Ray, I believe – as in "sun ray", "sun ra" and all that jazz…

Anyhow, here's what Alan Watt says about the culture creation industry -

“The technique that’s used on the public is as old as can be. Old as mankind himself and you’ll find in Plato’s “Republic” where he talks about the ideal world utopian society run by a dominant minority called the guardians.

They used all of the techniques of culture creation and culture creation is done by drama primarily, and symbolism, paintings, architecture, it puts ideas across to people; and in drama the onlookers actually emulate what they see. The acting societies prefer to say they reflect society, but amongst themselves they admit they help create culture, alter culture and direct culture. THAT’S THE JOB OF THE CULTURE CREATORS, and again going back to Plato, he also talks about music and that music was a powerful, powerful force for directing the minds of the young.

THIS TECHNIQUE HAS NEVER BEEN USED TO ITS FULL EFFECT AS IT IS TODAY.

It was so powerful that Plato actually talked about LICENSING MUSICIANS because the effect it could have on the youth and he knew that too because he had followed Socrates. Socrates had to drink the hemlock because Socrates was secretly teaching the youth (the aristocratic youth) into the mysteries and he was teaching them that one day they could rebel and bring in a new type of utopian order. The same as Pythagoras had done long before…”

.. regarding to the authorized culture creators Alan Watt talks about there – and how the guardian class can’t have culture created from the bottom up – here’s a cute little conspiracy fact as to why Megaupload was shut down -

“In December of 2011, just weeks before the takedown, Digital Music News reported on something new that the creators of #Megaupload were about to unroll. Something that would rock the music industry to its core.

I present to you… MegaBox. MegaBox was going to be an alternative music store that was entirely cloud-based and offered artists a better money-making opportunity than they would get with any record label.

“UMG knows that we are going to compete with them via our own music venture called Megabox.com, a site that will soon allow artists to sell their creations directly to consumers while allowing artists to keep 90 percent of earnings,” MegaUpload founder Kim ‘Dotcom’ Schmitz told Torrentfreak

Not only did they plan on allowing artists to keep 90% of their earnings on songs that they sold, they wanted to pay them for songs they let users download for free.

“We have a solution called the Megakey that will allow artists to earn income from users who download music for free,” Dotcom outlined. “Yes that’s right, we will pay artists even for free downloads. The Megakey business model has been tested with over a million users and it works.”

      • Rahbinah says:

        Good points on her name.

        Backwards is can also be:

Sun (Son) of anal or King (Rey) of anal

    • BRAVELION says:

      Absolutely Fascinating!

There has been some chatter on here for some time about this one.

I came across her name on some music blogs, and further reading

just confirms the "Back Door Infiltration Model", which has been

at play within the "Music Industry" for some time.

Giving bedroom producers full access to master tracks, then release

tons of (FREE) Remixes Online, & distribute via Indie Music / Dance Blogs,

which creates BUZZ (Cultural Currency), Translates into Itunes chart sales =

      Relevant Artist = Mainstream Success!

In this business model you have to tightly manufacture & groom the "star"

their style, and their persona, before you can even release a consumable

product. In the case of Lizzie Grant, she was a bad teeny bop Marilyn

Monroe copy (Kill Kill Kill) So they turned her into a Retro Brunette babe,

Pumped up her lips, did some promo shoots, and release 2 or 3 tracks

to said producers, and let THEM do all the work and promotion, through

their own channels. It's genius when you think about it. But an Old Trick!

      http://924collective.wordpress.com/2012/01/08/201

The same thing happened with LILLY ALLEN, in the UK, before anyone had

heard ANY of her music, she was in the Sunday Times, ID Magazine, Basically

EVERY major print magazine in London, because of her style?, (when 2 million

people read about you in a day, your profile will undoubtedly get thousands of

subsequent hits, put a couple of FREE downloads on your site and VIOLA !

Now "Underground" Internet Sensation = Global Mainstream Sensation

Lady Gaga was "LAUNCHED" on LOGO, The MTV owned GLBT network.

Performed at the NEW NOW NEXT AWARDS, and the rest is history.

It's smart marketing look at the HARDCORE GLBT following most female singers

historically gain, (Madonna, Cher, Kylie, etc) so directly marketing at that audience

      is very clever..

We are completely under attack from this meticulously constructed "synthetic" reality,

this further proves it. POP Music stopped being about the Music a LONG time ago, it's

all about Imagery and Symbolism and deception, what you see is definitely NOT what

      you get…..

Peace, Love, & Enlightenment My Friends

      • Ralphster says:

It apparently stopped being about 'pop' too, real organic popularity, since we are being told what to like by Big Brother media companies who own not only record labels, but magazines and TV stations on which to promote their music 'stars.'

      • BRAVELION says:

Well It looks like the Whole Lana Del Ray Meme has taken on

a life of it's own!, I find it bizarre because this has

been standard practice FOR EVER, but it just seems like she

was destined / designed to be this years FALL GIRL.

2012's Milli Vanilli, but hey any attention is good attention right?

For those people who think that Lana is no big deal please read these lyrics:

      "Put Me In A Movie"

      Lights, camera, action

If he likes me, takes me home

      Lights, camera, action

If he likes me, takes me home

If he likes me, takes me home

Come on, you know you like little girls

Come on, you know you like little girls

      You can be my daddy

      You can be my daddy

      Lights, camera, action

      You can be my daddy

You my small sparkle jump rope queen

      You my small sparkle

"You know i cant make it on my own" that part of the song says it all. The lyrics are really weird what normal person would make a song about someone liking little girls?? The fact that she sings about being a sparkle jump rope queen reminds me of how perverts try to make little children feel special so they can take advantage of them. Disgusting

      • CourtneyWhat says:

Honestly she looks better after whatever surgery she has had. Anyway she has good songs but i dont condone evil agendas. She has a song called "Kinda outta luck" which seems shes singing about killing her father.

      • L.S says:

Honestly, I don't think she means "daddy" as in "father" in the literal sense lol. I'm pretty sure she means daddy as in like… pimp lol. Although in ONE song ("Off to the Races", I do believe it is about the dark subject matter of child rape… her lyrics referencing the phrase "light of my life, fire of my loins" from Vladimir Nabokov's "Lolita" which is basically about that.

I do like her music, even if I do find it suspicious. When I watched her Born to Die video… I already thought something was up as well… I mean the scenes where she's sitting on a throne with a crown of roses… and tigers next to her. Then she walks down the hall with a WHITE gown and then later she is BLOODY in RED. You know that sounds a lot like the whole sacrificing thing. Maybe I'm crazy, but it's like sacrificing herself to become part of the industry now in her new identity.

Her music was always kind of dark though… even as Lizzy Grant. Her style has changed, but the subject matter is the same (she writes about the same guy). She says many times its about honouring the love they had and the reliving the happy memories at the time. The album is nostalgia at its best. But it gives me a sense of her pain too.. that a great relationship had to end. Which makes me think, hm, maybe this is what triggers her to her alter persona..

I just feel that this label switch and the SNL flop is her "entry" to the industry. I'm sad. I like her and her music. I just wish Interscope didn't get to her or vice versa. I do believe she wrote her own songs, but her image change and marketing is no doubtly contributed by Interscope.

    • skay888 says:

she does write her own music… even before she blew up. She wrote countless songs under the name Lizzy Grant, and has claimed to write hundreds of songs during the process of creating the album. Please give credit where it is due. she may be have a new persona, but she is still the same talented songwriter as before..

I saw a section of an interview she did recently it was strange in that she was very uncomfortable and didn't seem confident or passionate about her music like she portrays in her videos she spoke very funny like she didn't know what to say almost struggling for words. I felt there was something suspicious about this girl thanks VC for another insightful article long time fan first time commenting :D

    • freetoday says:

Well, they haven't completed the programming. Lmao. On a serious note, the real performance comes from pain and suffering. Will her music stand the test of time? Will see.

It's pretty sad that you can pretend to be somebody else. Why not be yourself? Oh, that's right: that's not enough. In the meantime, this is the message we send to kids.

      • Freetoday says:

Yeah, I am being myself right now. That is what makes me special. I tried following the crowd: tried, failed and learned. Try it for yourself someday:-)

      • I want the truth says:

Her music IS hypnotic, but admittedly the reason why I initially liked her music because it was finally some rare "pop" music that didn't sound as though there was Autotune or electronica/hip-hop involved. At the moment, she stands out from many other pop singers since her music has a different and more retro sound from the cookie-cutter pop music blasting from radios.

Autotuned or not, I've come to a conclusion that Lana Del Rey isn't as innocent as Ms Lizzie Grant and is just another product in the music industry that can fit with the overused retro-esque fashion trends people are sporting nowadays.

  3. Alexes says:

I hadn't listened to her until I saw her on SNL. Luckily, I wasn't watching the live show and was able to fast forward through her.

I'm not really surprised that she's fake. That's sort of a given among female singers today.

They're all manufactured just like children's toys and put out there for us to play with.

    • J. Doe says:

All singers are manufactured, not just female ones. Even anti-establishment hippie bands, record company executives probably decide the degree of their greasiness and the length of their beards. I think Lana Del Ray is supposed to appeal to the "indie" crowd who hate Lady gaga and Katy Perry and are into the whole retro thing.

      • fac in the crowd says:

You are correct. Just like Lady Gaga is a watered-down Peaches, Lana Del Rey is a watered-down April March or Fabienne Del Sol.

They just want your money…not your respect or critical opinion on the art form. And the professor at Syracuse is wrong. Laughably wrong. Authenticity is not an illusion, but completely subjective (ie only YOU know if you are being real to your soul) and BINGO their asertations that music is not about authenticity anymore…well…thats why they sell shit to people who believe that. Now, we have "chart" mucisians and REAL musicians and authenticity is NOT an illusion. It does not take a genius to see that Kanye is not true to his roots and thats why his music sucks and why he makes money. Real authentic musicians are not in the business of market research.

Kurt never wanted the chart title, he knew it meant he couldn't go back so he went forward, in authentic Kurt fashion RIP

indeed… that one looks like it was made specifically for VC to locate and display to us!

But her top is so nice. I always liked the little blue smurfs.

      • Blueberry says:

@Drewe-it's not a smurf, but a dwarf,Dopey, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs…a Disney film.

      • Marozia says:

What a sad picture. Thanks for that CerebralGril.

Poor old Lana/Lizzie. What's going to happen to her if she doesn't follow the illuminati rules? Even with daddy's money, I suppose, not much can save her. Ruby is quite right in saying Lana may be related to Ulysses Grant. The illuminati delves into the backgrounds of certain peoples and keeps an 'eye' on them.

P.S., I'm related to Vlad Tepes, I wonder if the illuminati will make me a star?

      • CerebralGril says:

Bot? I like vigilant. I also happen to listen to Lizzie Grant a while back, I've seen her transformation. Quite sad. Sorry for commenting if it makes you uncomfortable.

    • Antonio says:

At the very least, she is techniclly using her birth name (Perry is her mother's maiden name). Yet, she's changed her personality since working with Shawn Carter's pawn.

  7. Tina says:

Thanks for posting on her. I find her music annoying and even before I knew about her Born to die video or having even seen her, just listening to her song Video I already knew she is a product of the Illuminati because just like Gaga, I dont feel she is special or very talented. Yet people make her like she is one in a million when she is just another average singer.

Guess anything for fame nowadays. Its alot more important than anything else for 90% of singers nowadays. It doesnt even matter if you make good music anymore, as long as you are in the public eye. Very sad.

    • Tina says:

I forgot to add: I also feel that there is a certain coldness about her. She doesnt smile, she never moves her face, nothing. It might be cuz of the Botox or whatever she has, but if you are like that at least you could smile, but there is nothing. It almost seems like she has no soul…

  8. This is only the beg says:

      !!!!! PRICELESS !!!!!

The first time I heard of her, I was listening to the radio and a house mix of Video Games came on. I immediately took to the song because I loved how haunting the melody was and the formations of the verses were refreshing to hear on the radio, so I downloaded a free copy online. I looked up pictures of her online to match the face to the voice, way before the sudden media push. So when I seen the video I said, "Who's this chick??", needless to say I realized that plastic surgery had come into play. As I was watching for the first time and keeping the lyrics in mind, all I could think was this poor girl is singing to the "machine"(Lady GaGa-Marry the Night) and even though she watches her peers suffer for the same thing, she's willing to pour her soul out, all to be a hollywood star….for the fame.

That day my heart dimmed a bit for Lana Del Ray.

On one note I feel sorry for her…no one really fully knows what they're getting themselves into…you only know what you're told, but on the other hand…..ENOUGH IS ENOUGH already.

      Like reeeeeeally???????

I really can't wait to see how all of this plays out.

Seems to me the record companies in the West have simply caught up to what the record companies over in Korea and Japan have been doing for years. Korea especially has schools these kids go to where they learn all manners of things, including multiple languages, so that they can be accessible to a wider audience. Thankfully for every situation like this you have Youtube which usually organically brings up real talent. Perhaps the record companies are manufacturing artists now to have a "higher quality" artist then what Youtube provides.

A list of her Scientology service completions (could be partial, since they're from the numerous periodicals published within the CoS for their own members) can be viewed here: http://www.truthaboutscientology.com/stats/by-nam

She's DEEP in this cult – She was born into it.

…And don't let the innocuous sounding names of these courses fool you. I've read the course materials ex-members & anons scanned and uploaded…listened to hours upon hours of leaked L. Ron Hubbard lectures….

LRH may have been a plagiarist, an academic fraud, a pseudo-scientist, a total nut…but he was an EXCELLENT cult leader. Everything about Scientology "tech" is mind-control…and he got people to pay through the nose to be brainwashed! Genius!

Totally evil, but credit where it's due. He totally was baffled by calculus with the whole dx/dy thing (man that was some hilarious lecture!), but he establishes an cult, that pulled off the biggest established infiltration of the US government EVER (Google: "Operation Snow White"), has prison-like detention facilities across the world even TODAY (Google: "Rehabilitation Project Force" and "Gold Base"), not to mention the many suspicious deaths to it's name (Google: "Lisa McPherson", for the most infamous of these) – and it's still around!

(…although I think it may be singing it's swan song quite soon!)

In conclusion: No…no <3 for Juliette Lewis!

  12. Jane says:

Anyone look into the meaning of this new name of hers?

A baby name search of "Lana" gets me: Helen (Greek) "light"

A "Del Rey" search brings up:

"The word 'del' combines the preposition 'de' and the masculine definite article 'el' to mean 'of the'. The masculine noun 'rey' means 'king'…"

So maybe King Of Light? And I think we all know who that is…

    • jose menny says:

the name struck me as odd too, being a hispanic origin and spanish roots… king of light is one way of looking at the name, but also king's wool. lana in spanish is wool, and we know typically where wool comes from: sheep. hmm… but i've never heard of her until i read this. i'm still thinking that lady gaga set off the countdown in times square this new years… so who else needs to confirm revelation to come?

      • DaufenSsi says:

but if you go with the same meaning of light…and use the Spanish "del Rey" literally "of the King… then it becomes "Light of the King"… which again it still relates to the illuminati

I haven't even heard of this lady but interesting…

    • drewe says:

      I though lana means wool.

      • drewe says:

oops sorry jose I just read your post, so I didn't realize someone else referred to the meaning of the word lana.

    • Pearl says:

Right on Jane! So, when I saw her Born to Die video….and really thought about the whole "born to die," it hit me "wouldn't many say that Jesus, in a way was Born to Die?" And if Lana del Rey does mean King of Light…then some could infer that it's alluding to Lucifer. If it's wool…then she may be playing on the metaphor of slaughter (sheeps are led to slaughter/sacrifice) and she has the martyrdom symbolism in a lot of her songs, her Born to Die video and pictures. So I wonder if she knows she's an industry sacrifice or if she's resigned to sacrificing herself for the industry…I think the Born to Die video answers that for us.

      • jaguar1915 says:

yeah and in that song she refers a lot to Bible passages. for example "I was lost but now I'm found" – at that moment it goes from light to dark- meaning she was found in the dark and she goes on to do the one eye thing. most of her songs are very satanic in nature – i can't believe people don't see that – unless the majority is embrassing the other side. I found it interesting too in one song she refers to "heaven on earth" –

    • TheWorkThatThey&#039 says:

King of Light make sense, but also Light of the King.

    • clover says:

Hi, I totally agree with you , but let me tell you that Lana in some countries is a way to say money , so that would mean King's money or money of the king

      anyways iluminati

it would technically be "light of the king" but maybe the same meaning applies

I love her music… and I will find it really sad if she's the next illuminati puppet. But there's no other way since her label is Interscope…

  17. yea says:

I think there's more to this than just a name change and persona. If you took the evil out of Lady Gaga, removing the fun 80's drum machine, clothing and satire, you'd get the hollow, souless shell that is Lana Del Rey.

It scares me because they're finding a way to formulate nostalgia and "authenticity" with another puppet. Be warry of the anti-puppet or anti-pop that is made to look like the antidote to their poision. Its the black AND white square of baphomet. They just want to sell 100%.

    • Casual Observer says:

    • Whatever says:

Yeah I know. She gained an image, so what. Her music is absolutely epic. In an short interview she stated that she writes her own stuff and when asked if "Lizzie Grant and Lana Del Rey are the same person" (which is a totally screwed up thing for an interviewer to ask in my opinion) she laughed and said "they are very much the same person". So at least she not playing into the whole 'I have MPD/DID thing that Gaga and Beyonce have stated doing. And if you haven't seen her smile then you haven't watched enough of her. Here's part 2 of an interview where she talks about writing her album, mixing it and answering this weirdo's question of persona's:

  21. justanotherface says:

Too bad her SNL performance was such a disaster. For all the effort "they" have been putting into building Lana up for quite some time now – I believe that SNL appearance was supposed to be her catalyst into the mainstream's consciousness – she fell flat on her face and became the butt of many online jokes. And you have to suck pretty hardcore for people to notice it on SNL b/c artists almost always sound off on there (not sure why, something about their mixing or acoustics just ruins most vocals).

What I always wanted to do, but will probably never have the time, is to compile a list one day of all the would-be stars that the powers that be have tried to make happen over the years to no avail. There ARE instances of that happening – those who keep getting pushed even when it seems obvious that even the 'sheep' want no part of it. They finally give up when they find someone else who serves the agenda better. I am not sure what I would find from taking on such a task, but I've always been kind of fascinated by why some people manage to have that elusive factor that pushes them into stardom while others don't despite many having the same machinery behind them.

Lana obviously has people who want to make her happen but I just don't think she is going to catch on. She's too inaccessible and cold like someone pointed out above. And also as someone else said above (they jokingly, I in seriousness), it's like they haven't completed the programming. So she's this unfinished project that can't fulfill her intended purpose of "connecting" (i.e., brainwashing) the masses. No worries though, I'm sure they'll have a newer and even better model out soon enough.

    • sepp says:

Please out together that list! Little Boots, Emili Sandé, Florence + The Machine, Marina & The Diamonds?, CocoRosie, Austra, Goldfrapp, Yelle, Uffie, I blame Coco, Dragonette, Florrie etc etc

      • justanotherface says:

Ooh, that's a good start Sepp. Keep in mind that if I do start this list it will be from a US perspective. So I'm thinking, for example, that Jessie J (so far) would fall in this category. Even though she seems to be doing well in the UK she has really struggled to make a dent in the US. Domino finally went top 10 here but everyone keeps talking about how it essentially sounds just like a Katy Perry song. She hasn't established an identity for herself and I am dubious about her making it past one-hit wonder status here. Robyn is another artist who seems to have done well abroad but can't break through at all here. I am not sure about the inclusion of Florence on the list, b/c her first album did sell well and her current one also seems set to go gold. That said, she hasn't had a breakthrough in the sense of becoming a household name or getting a lot of radio airplay. She's more of a cult phenomenon. (This is something else I think "they" purposely do by design, and may have been their goal with Lana Del Ray – they know there is a subset of the population that instinctively resists the typical popular culture and gravitates more toward more 'obscure' non-pop acts. They have made it their goal to corner that market too by crafting acts that feed one's sense of 'coolness' while still sending out exactly the messages they want us all to hear.) If I can think of any more artists any time soon I will compile that list.

This is going back some years but I kind of remember an old article on Julia Ormond that alluded to this. She had an immense amount of machine hype about her in the 90's, but instead of it working there was a backlash against her and her name became poison. She's still managed to secure work over the years but she never attained the A or even moderate B-list status that they were aiming for her to achieve.

This is not the article I recall seeing first but it is an interview with her that gives a lot of the same insight on how she basically got sucked into and spat out by the "machine" of Hollywood:

        http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/oct/25/julia-

She admits herself that "I got several jobs in a row, back to back, based on stuff that had been seen by the producers but not yet by any real audiences, and that's tricky. It starts to feel like the audience is being told what it will like, and that never works out well." Article also talks about an early film she did named The Baby of Macon (extremely grotesque sacrificial tale). Interesting and possibly quite telling start for ones career, to say the least

Her IMDB page says she is a direct niece of Welsh rebel and prince Owain Glyndwr. Admittedly I'm not familiar enough with the 13 bloodlines to know if there is any connection to Welsh royalty.

I know its bad to say, but I really like her music. Although thats as far as it will ever go, but that doesn't justify why I listen to her music. Only 2 tracks, "Born to die" and "Blue jeans"

You lot need to check out the video of when she was Lizzie Grant, wow, huge change. She looked so innocent. But what artist doesn't look innocent before they jump into this Illuminati cult?

Here she is – Lizzie Grant, wow, right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAIA7PCo-94

Regardless of how good her music is, she is one dangerous girl. I can see it in her eyes, she loves the sex, danger. And she denies any plastic surgery! She talks about how a man takes her away etc, now she may have had her string of bad relationships, but I feel this is more. Like her "handler" did this to her. Like they raped her, like they do to Gaga, Britney, etc. Its sickening to even say it or think about it.

  25. justanotherface says:

Oh! and speaking of SNL performances, someone please tell me I am not going crazy…

I and a friend of mine were recently recalling last year at around this time Adele also performing on SNL, and that appearance being what set up her surprising opening numbers in February. We were talking about it mainly b/c we were talking about how it seemed obvious Interscope was trying to follow the same type of launch for Lana. But then when we went to look for video Adele's performances, we found nothing. Not ONE single reference to her 2011 SNL appearance. If you look at the wiki page for the list of performers and hosts for each season she does not appear. The only thing that will come up will be her performance in 2008.

It really stood out as suspicious to me b/c up until the week of 21's US release Adele had not done any other performances, nor did she have the radio airplay, to really explain the huge amount of buzz and the 320k+ opening week. For that matter she really didn't start getting a lot off airplay until mid April, a good two months after her album was out (and had continued amassing strong sales week after week) and radio was basically forced to play catch-up to the masses. I know her Brits performance was huge for her overseas but I don't think that many people here were aware of it. I've been spending this whole year assuming that this 2011 Adele/SNL performance existed and now to see that it supposedly doesn't…well it just makes me wonder if that isn't what got her album off to such a huge start then what is?

Are my friend and I losing it, or did the powers that be decide that they needed to wipe the net clean of Adele on SNL in 2011? And if the latter, my question is why? What would be a good reason for that? It would be so much easier for me to shrug and say "meh, I guess I was just wrong" but I can't help but be bugged by this.

As I recall, Bob Dylan was something of a phony as well, pretending to be an Oklahoma drifter, singing with a fake accent, and whatnot and suchlike. Being fake, or maybe "inventing a stage persona," is a thing that musicians do when they are really ambitious and insecure.

Also: "Born to Die"? That was an MDC song back 30 years ago. I had it painted on the back of my leather jacket! Ha ha! I was a phony too!

I'm sure she'll show us more in the future. Actually I'm not looking forward to see that, not at all.

      - first of all:sorry about my english.., but it is clear that Lana del Crap (I just can not stand the sound of that fancy shallow name in my head), I mean Del Crap project is the ultimative agenda set to the young female audience, also for male…but it is so sexist, pathetic, retarded and trashy.

Here we have a trashy girl, who calls herself nasty..who the fuck cares what she has to say..first of all.I mean any artist who sings lulabies, songs named lolita, then…you can be the boss…born to dye…or daddy get my puss…whatever she said….needs to be hospitalized emidiately. And hello, it is not art putting crap and sodomy in the media space. We had great artists talking about child molestation in the ninetees, and some of them in mainstreem…Jeremy, My name is Luca….those songs had a story, they told something. But this chick product enjoyes that sodomizeing crap.

And that fake face, not only the lip job, but the fake expressions, like she is so sad, and she just does not know how it happened to be globaly famous, all she wanted was to be killed by her fucking boyfrien in the video….and that is the realy sad message through del Crap project, and Twillight and all the bloody trends..vicitmization of life…troughout the female role…That is pure evil and satanism.

She is only shy and quiet,-yeah right, and looks like an operated porn star liveing like we are in the fifties. I am so pissed off how people just can not see it, because they wanna be seduced by the system. I say it is an horor project which has a base in a philosophy that suicide is cool, and all of this is promoted by someone who is apparently fresh to the scene and gorgeous. Well it pisses me off.It is the work of devil. I do not attend church, but this kind of trash makes me sound like I am a religious fanatic, maybe that is the reaction what they want.

Lana Del Rey aka Lizzy Grant, her dad is a millionaire who is wired. Her last name being Grant made me think……do they have any lineage to Ulysses Grant (just because many monarch programmed puppets have lineage) She seems very Monarch to me. Watched several of her interviews and she has a very odd way about her, a change in personna, a subtle accent in some footage which seems to be a programmed alter in many of these people. Who is her mother Patricia (?) I can not find her maiden name. When I research anyone I think could be connected to Programming, low and behold they seem to have lineage to some very powerful people throughout history. Many of our Celebrities, Politicians and Corp Heads, have lineage to nobility or politically wired elite which is never publicized. Glenn Close, Brooke Shields, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Madonna, Chevy Chase, John Kerry, The Bushs, The Kennedy's, Obama. Doesn't anyone find this strange? Another thing why is it that all of these programmed song birds seem to hit the ground running at 15, that is another odd thing I find while researching their career and family history. The parents always split up early on. Just strange that the story line is consistently the same. People should know as soon as they watch these videos that she is a slave because they all have the same disturbing, graphically bloody, violent videos filled with esoteric symbolism. It has become so predictable

  34. Ruby says:

Someone stated at least she is not playing into the whole MPD thing that Gaga and Beyonce are doing. How about Brittney Spears? MDP (Multiple Personality Disorder) is the entire goal of MK-Ultra/ Monarch Programming. Tia Tequila has MPD. I think if you took a close look at all of these celebrities you would see the most likely all have MPD. They are not acting, these are the programmed alters. This is successful programming. Look at Karen Mulder, another example. Anyone who is blacking out and losing time or is having memories resurface due to severe trauma, well thats the proof in the pudding. This is what I'm waiting for a revelation that wow, how come everyone in hollywood has MPD????? Why do you think Brittney, Niki Menaj, Madonna, Gaga and others go into this weird Brittish Accent thing, this is a programmed alter. I believe it's an alter not an act that is being consistently done. I noticed years ago that Mariah Carey did an interview where she sounded like a street thug and then another when she sounded incredibly refined but they were within the same year or two. Very strange behavior, then she had the predictable nervous breakdown in her 30s. If you pay close attention, they all follow the same blue print.

    • Antonio says:

You can leave Britney out of this MPD thing. And plae, don't get me started on that social media whore Tila Tequila.

  35. trav says:

I love the song video games better then anything lady gaga has produced.

  36. whitney says:

This article doesn't reveal anything surprising imo. A lot of singers have taken on new personas so that it will appeal to the audience. Yes she changed her name and appearance, *but* her music and ideas are all hers, you cant deny that. I listen to an artist not bc of how they look etc, I listen to artists' whose music speaks to me and that I enjoy. Her name and looks were changed so that she would be more marketable. I wouldnt call this fake, since all artists are put out there for a reason.. to make money and appeal to the mass… FOCUS on the music, theres not much beans to be spilt over her imo. an artificial creation?? then you would say this about a majority of the artists out.

vigilant citizen you should put out an article about music being the modern worlds voodoo. If you thinnk about it and its correlation with illlumnati or whatev cult your always talking about.. music, certain songs make you do things.. the rythms, lyrics, video .. it makes you act a certain way. There's no denying that someone's music choice saids a lot about them.. and the way they act. I would love to hear more about this!

    • Rrr-B-Wolf says:

      Yes, whitney:

You hit the nail on the head.

I was an 'audio guy' for 15yrs (small time tours and house sound) and I also tried to figure out what got people excited about certain music and certain artists (as an aside, I mixed for Allanis Morisset' at her CD release party…another manufactured artist). I finally figured it out (I think) and I'm not being racist here, or anything; it's the 'african beat'. By that I mean the basic drum beat with the background follow up of a bass guitar.

I tried this out while I was mixing. If I reduced the bass (drums & bass git.), not totally, but put them significantly in the background in the mix, the dance-floor would be dead. Then I would slowly turn up 'the beat' and magically the 'crowd went wild'. It became so obvious (and easy) that I became bored and quit the biz.

PS: very few people care or really analyze lyrics….it's all about the bass(ic) BEAT.

      Just my 2sense.

PPS: I still like music but I only listen to indies.

      • Rrr-B-Wolf says:

Hey, once you get me going I can't quit.

Anyway, I feel I should elaborate a bit more on meredith's question.

I also feel there is a strong emphasis on very basic (repetitive) terminology…baby baby….daddy daddy…ect, ect, ect(ups' did I just do that..lol).

The whole thing becomes a HYPNOTIC SOUND SOUP and every one is gobbling it up.

        Have fun kids

  37. debora says:

I don't care about who she is or was, that is stupid ! She doesn't care !

And her music is great, so when you're listening to her songs don't look at her face! JUST LISTEN !

MUSIC IS MADE FOR US TO LISTEN !

  38. George Mahoney says:

she is yet another created fictional creature, willing to sell her soul and her body for whatever purpose. I know the industry well as I have been in it for years. She co-opted herself and gave her self over to whomever would be well served to use it. The things she has had to do in order to pay homage to Lucifer would amaze all of you if you can only handle the truth of it all. These sorts of people give up eternity for a taste of it all now. Regardless of her family's wealth she still had to sacrifice her soul for success on this earthly plane. Good luck to her as there will be yet another faithful minion to soon take her place.

  39. Dave says:

She's unimpressive to me and honestly her vocals don't change much which means she won't make a dent in music. They say she's an artist and it is true to some extent, but originality is very important to me when delving into the arts and those are the artists that make a great impact on our culture. Maybe I'm just bitter.

    • drewe says:

Nope you aren't bitter, you only refuse to be a part of the herd. If you don't like something why beat yourself about it? Diversities of human character and capacity are more than welcome, it's fascinating to accommodate all different tastes and likings.

  40. rach pear says:

Eh… I'm not impressed. Regardless of any previous attempts at marketing this young lady — this one is transparent and bland.

  41. Chris says:

LOL @ this articles title.. before I clicked it I thought you were saying shes a test tube baby grown in a laboratory or something.

  42. iMochi says:

I also notice the Masonic Pillars behind her–has anyone else notice any other symbols?

    • Anon says:

It's a classic Renaissance chapel – not a Masonic temple. It doesn't mean anything.

      • Amy Johansen says:

Everything has a dual meaning, it may be renassiance (gah can't spell ot), but then there are also the checkboard floors and the tigers (beta sex kitten programming), ect, etc. If it was just one symbol, then I would say "Yes, you are right." However, its not, so there is clearly a dual meaning, the other meaning being an occult one. You either haven't really researched the symbols or you are intentionally blinding yourself, either way, you're wrong.

        God Bless ~Amy

  43. This is the first I've ever heard of her. Only time will tell if she's working for the Illuminati.

  44. iMochi says:

Also the fact that she has red nail polish, red bra at the end, blood, etc. could mean as in sacrifice and initiation.. ( http://vigilantcitizen.com/search-results/?cx=par… ) And the fact that this video seems to be taking place in a church-looking area, where we as people usually come to for peace, happiness, the sharing of religious ideas, etc., but since this music video is vulgar [yet taking place in a church] , disgusting, demoralizing, it seems contradicting[if you think about it], and could indirectly, subliminally, promote/influence the idea of secularism…

    • Fleurdamour says:

And there is suposedly a shot of her on a throne, with felines on either side – as we've established here before, that is the classic pose of Cybele, the great mother goddess.

  45. LVB says:

There's definitely some odd marketing going on here, but that's to be expected with Interscope. Funny that they shelved her initial debut record, and now this huge and "sudden" PR blitz.

Maybe they wanted to let Gaga make all that cash for them and burn out a little bit first…

I don't find her music all that interesting from what I've heard so far, but it is always nice to hear a real voice without the overdone production and extreme autotune syndrome (EAS). :)

  46. Rheaganomics says:

Been waiting for this one! Thanks, VC!

  47. Mickey says:

Saw her on SNL and had never heard of her before. I think she's awful. She doesn't even sing, she talks and moans and belts out sharp notes like a squeaky door. Terrible. Reminded me of a crazy person singing… or someone acting crazy. And she looked like a drag queen with that afghan hound looking hair. Just all around creepy.

  48. Pearl says:

I wonder if VC will do an analysis of the "Born to Die" video. At first I thought she was acting like Persephone (greek queen of the underworld) – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persephone. I already have my theories but the last scene, where's she's walking down the church aisle seems like a reenactment of birth. She's in a dark church with pulsing lights (think womb in contractions). She walks through a passageway in a white dress (think innocent/pure baby exiting the birth canal), and walks into light (birth/entering a new space/world/life), but in that final scene she's dead…and the scene is very reminiscent of Michelangelo's "Pieta" (which was also brought up in the VC message boards) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piet%C3%A0.

She dies in the crash, but her love interest doesn't? The devil! There are a lot of flowers throughout, suggestive of a funeral/burial scene. Even when she's in the bed on one shot, and the next has the guy spooning her. She's holding a bouquet of flowers with an expression of fear and standing right outside the door to the room where the guy makes a symbol for slicing the throat.

So…the industry…the "holy church of the music industry where celebrities and industry heads are worshiped" gives birth to their new sacrifice, who acknowledges and willingly allows herself to be sacrificed…sigh

She's made it clear, she's willing to be sacrificed.

For the life of me, I'm trying to understand the opening and closing scenes where she's being held by dude in front of the stars and bars…

Oh I know there's symbolism all over that scene…I'm just not clear about what it's alluding to. Any thoughts

    • Ralphster says:

Remember the American flag imagery in Gaga's Telephone? The biker chick American flag clothes. I don't know what it means, either, except maybe to go all Dan Brown. The original name of Washington, DC, according to Brown in The Lost Symbol, was Rome. Maybe the American symbolism is code for the Roman brand of imperialism that the US is guilty of enacting. It's also powerful mainstream branding, harking back to the 1950's era she kind of evokes, the Americana thing. I remember a Coke Classic commercial from the 80's that rode that kind of nostalgia, 'red, white and you.' Cynical.

      • L. says:

the united states hubub is all a facade, its not real, thus creating these 'illusions' of the 'american dream', also britney and her american flag sitcom thing she did, as well as miley cyrus party in the usa with the american flag dropping with the name of britney, jessica simpson wearing an american flag bikini…its all just fake bullshit!

    • JustMyOpinion2 says:

I kinda feel like the beginning scene represents her trusting in an angel to achieve the "American Dream", and the ending scene is her once she gets it, in her spiritual death.

Remember that Lucifer copies everything that God does, but only the opposite…Duality/As Above So Below. So she must come to him as a child, knowing nothing….Reborn in his "light" and let him lead her. So I believe the nakedness represents just that, a primal stage…ignorance, before you truly are, and through her "death" she achieves new birth.

Her image is not hers, it's of the machine,

her life is not her own, it's what makes her money,

and whomever she really was had to die for Lana to be born.

      The American Dream.

Like I firmly believe GaGa was telling us that the American dream is nothing more than poison to our minds, bodies and souls in the Telephone video.

Just like the song that Lizzie Grant was singing on youtube, " Nothing more gorgeous than a hundred dollar bill", because to some…that is the only beauty in life.

(shrugs) If that's what your into….to each it's own, but

I firmly believe this girl was violated by her father, and God knows who else.

When you watch the youtube clip her facial expressions are very shameful and hopeless when she sings, "Let me put on a show for you daddy"….then that mixed with the rest of her lyrics…it points to pedophiliac undertones to me.

I think she has been prepped for this for a long time and you can't help what you're born into.

      Prayer is right

Another video where the flag is displayed in the open and the end is the Jay-Z and Kanye O.T.I.S. video…..I've read that the OTIS stands for Only The Illuminati Succeed….that might very well be the same as IVY meaning Illuminati Very Youngest…which I think is bull, but think about it.

Who has ever achieved the American Dream without becoming a ghost in a shell/selling out/killing your values for money, riches and fame?

      Just My Opinion

    • Sarah says:

I think the american flag is symbolic of America dying. Also he is a representation of the illuminati. He has one injured eye at the end while he's holding her dead body.

  49. sam says:

Her name says it all.. Lana Del Rey.. translation… money of the king. "Lana" is the slang for money "del" of and "rey" king. coincidence? I think not…

  50. Godgifted says:

I freely admit that I have no idea who she is. I just listened to Born to Die and her sound appears contrived and forced. The way she sings with that raspiness seems fake like so many of them are now and it's annoying. I have no idea what she's referring to or talking about after watching about 2 1/2 minutes of the video. It made no sense and I was tired of looking at her balloon of a mouth. It's sad really how the music industry is with people who want to sing. They beguile you and sell your soul to the highest bidder and you become theirs like a trapped, fragile thing. She's in the same vein as Lady Gaga but she's different in her theatrics. She probably won't wear meat as clothes but she will have a mysterious air about her and evoke some kind of interest. Chateau Marmont is know for all kinds of sick and sadistic things happening there. She's being controlled to like it, poor thing and stay "acting" in her persona until it consumes her. Lord help them all. They are like sheep going to the slaughter.

  51. michael says:

just to be fair….. lady gaga (as sick as she is) actually has talent… this girl has NONE.

  52. Task says:

There is so much inaccurate information in this article. Lana wasn't signed to Interscope until AFTER "Video Games" became such a huge online success, and she put out a self titled record in 2010 before being signed to Interscope, so the record company DID NOT come up with Lana Del Rey. The name came from her manager, but she had always had the idea herself, it just seems like this all happened at once because she took 2 years to write her songs and come up with all her ideas for her image and what not. Same thing with Gaga, she was Gaga BEFORe being signed to Interscope and even before being signed to her first record deal at Def Jam. It was also only speculation and rumors that Lana's lips are fake/she got plastic surgery; she has confirmed herself that she hasn't had any surgeries done and in interviews you can clearly see that her lips are exactly the way they were before she took on her stage name and was just playing music under her own name, Lizzy Grant. I really do respect this site and the creator but I thought the whole point of the site was to correctly inform people about what's really going on and not giving made up facts.

  53. Jas says:

Del Rey means of/belonging to the king. I wonder who she considers her king? Since a king naturally has dominion, command over his subjects. I hope its not an evil king though seeing her album is called born to die this king seems to fancy human sacrifices. Speaking of sacrifices and being born to die I see a similarity between her and Lady Di. Roses, roses and more rose symbolism. Even the bee on her mouth in the Interview magazine cover seems to ever so mildly allude to Amy Winehouse another occult sacrifice (her hair is very volumnous on said cover and theres a presence of a bee. Bee + volumnous hair = bee-hive hair. Bee hive hair is synonymous with Amy Whinehouse. If my calculations are correct she has planned herself as a sacrifice for fame and riches. The famous overnight part is really working out for her because I just found out about her right now. :p

And denying plastic surgery rumors. She shouldnt believe a word of herself. She's like a far worse and cheaper Lindsey Lohan or should I say cheese lips knockoff.

    • Pearl says:

I just thought the bee on her lip was mocking/playing on the fact that her top lip is looks like she got stung by a bee. A lot of folks can tell she got her lips done, no matter how much she denies it. Her silly answer, "It was a bee that stung me"

  54. Adriane says:

Thanks vigilant, I have been waiting for you to talk about her born to die video. I knew something was up with her ever since she staged a come back with a new name. She got all that plastic surgery for nothing because her career still isn't going to go any where. People need to realize that pulling stunts and having gimmicks doesn't mean you have talent and your not going to have a long career without any talent. Her, lady gaga and the rest of these demonic fools are not going to last that long once their appeal has worn off!

it's easy for me to like songs/artists but…i actually don't like this chick. at all. oh well.

one less illuminati puppet i need to worry about listening to.

  57. soylengreenISpeople says:

Also, what's with this trend of emotionless singers? Is that the Interscope trademark? Gaga seldom smiles, Katy Perry is a mannequin, and this "Lana" seems so disconnected and lifeless. Even her voice and intonation is like she was drunk or drugged… Whatever happened to the bubbly teen idol look/music… Now visuals and choreographs are about sexual depravity, blaspheme religious themes or occultism and death. Nothing bubbly about that!

  58. Carolyn says:

She looks a bit like a plastic blow up sex doll, something to do with those ridiculous inflated lips which Im sure I remember reading that the reason why pouty lips are so alluring is something to do with them looking more like a female labia!?

Really is sad though, she does not look right as if shes not really there, surely she would look at images of herself like the above one and think that she just looks like a piece of meat which is basically what shes looked at as by her management, brainwash her, dress her like a cheap whore and give her some songs to sing with a hidden agenda that she probably doesnt even understand or realize. She has that empty look like the girl on the cover of suckerpunch.

  59. caleb says:

she's another nobody who is stupid enough to worship a freakin GOAT for her cash money…

  60. Ivan says:

She F'n sucks…boring ass song with no soul.Heard her on SNL…I literally had to fast foward that shit.Adele is way better than her.

  61. GrowingUp31 says:

I just watched her 'Video Games' and that song has powerful and interesting effects. I noticed that I was mesmerised by it and I felt moved. I have no idea what she's singing about, but there's just this enchanting and hypnotising quality to the song. From the very first note till the last. I feel like as if my heart is being held. I know that the song should be related to video games due to the title, but for the first time in my life, I have no clue at all to what she's singing. When I listened to it, I felt both loving and repulsed to the song. No song has ever done this to me.

I do know that music hold influence over our brain state: the Alpha, Beta and Delta. One state is when we are awake – our conscious state. Another is our unconscious state, when we are sleeping. The last is the state when we are fully focused.

It is said that Einstein had used music to train his brain to be able to have a high level of concentration, and that concentration could only be broken when a very loud sound is produced – he normally would use a device where a heavy object would be dropped to shock him out of his concentration.

There is a scientific company producing Digital Prayer, where the songs inside (instrumental, nature sounds) are composed to enhance the brains's functions. Some of the titles are: Super Learning, Natural Glory, Amazing Focus, Easy Sleep.

I am using the product currently and it actually works, especially improving my focus.

That is why people would normally recommend to listen to classical music to improve learning. That is also the reason why drums and the brass instruments are not recommended to use for church services. It's not about being resistant to modern changes, but to help 'tune' the brain and heart to be ready for spiritual matters.

Now, I don't know what exactly is the aim for Interscope to make Lana's songs in such a way, but I am sure they're not looking to help improve mankind.

    • Nell says:

She's using metaphors reminiscent of Portishead and Radiohead… she's walking you through the psychology of pain and trying to cope with it.. Video Games specifically to women and the abuse we are undergoing by society. No wonder that is the media's favorite single. It's very much about feeling pain and hiding it with drugs… but I listened to her other songs. They definitely don't seem to be encouraging the behavior but describing the torment in it. And not in an attractive way, but sad and bitter and looking for hope… I see her like Lupe Fiasco. In the music industry, you have to somewhat get along with the powers you despise in order to succeed, but her symbols are not so blatant. I don't think she's the type who would just be like "Cover one eye? Wear 3D glasses and march in leather nazi uniforms? OKAY!"

      • Ted says:

Only came across her today reading VC. The comments got me curious and so I have spent the last 3 hours watching and reading as much as I can in those few hours.

Conclusion: Micky mouse club victim of manipulation.

After many years learning about this Monarch/mdk programming ( started with the odd death of Marc Bolan), I have come to a conclusion which basically percolates to these artist doing some form of deal with power. However after reading many of the lyrics of artists as they progress in their careers, I feel I can see a pattern of one where the lyrics are telling a message of being trapped, accepting their lot and trying to say the obvious without being direct.

The artists that do not die of "car accidents"/"plane crashes"/ or "suicidal drug induced escapades" seem to have come to terms with their lost morality and then milk the deal they have.

The ratio of famous artists dying to that of famous politicians/ sports people, is remarkable in itself.

        Monolith by M Bolan

        The throne of time

        Is a kingly, Kingly thing

        From whence you know

        We all do begin

And dressed as you are girl

        In your fashions of fate

        Baby it's too late

        Shallow all the actions

        Of the children of men

        Fogged was their vision

        Since the ages began

        And lost like a lion

        In the canyons of smoke

        Brother it's no joke.

Marc Bolan wrote some freaky lyrics. Check out his catalogue and read the lyrics starting with "The Wizard" and "the third degree". Fifty years ago they were denounced as being "whimsical" but in terms of the knowledge the internet has now allowed, the contect of his lyrics have sharp parallels to the worls about us today. I have no hesitation in stating Marc Bolan made a deal that had more to it thatn he had been promised and he deliberatley set about to indirectly wake people up.

There is a your tube vid of Soul of my suit where he is in a hall of mirrors. Its very theatrical for ist day but it tells a lot about his journey. Lot's of funny goings on in his life story.

Be well y'all and never fail to look beyond the surface, particularly when your internal alarm bells "ring"

Keep up the great work VC

    • Ted says:

Both of these songs were written and released in the early Sixties

      THE WIZARD

Walking in the woods one day

I met a man who said that he was magic

      Wonderful things he said

      Pointed hat upon his head

Knew why people laughed and cried

Why they lived and why they died

      Shadows followed him around

He walked the woods without a single sound

      Golden eagles at his door

Cats and bats played on the floor

      Silver sunlight in his eyes

The wizard turned and melted in the sky.

      THIRD DEGREE

Everywhere I go people question me

she read my head and I can see

      Philosophising mad psychiatrist

closing of my mind in darkness

      Beware of the third degree

Everywhere I go people follow me

They look, they smile, they cannot see

I am too much for them to take in

they only say that I am faking

      Beware of the third degree

Everywhere I go people always say

It's sad to see him act this way

      Philosophising mad psychiatrist

just closing of my mind in darkness

Beware of the third degree, yeah

Sanity baby is all I got

I'm as sane as you believe it or not

      Philosophising mad psychiatrist

just closing my mind in darkness

Everywhere I go people laugh at me.

  62. Nell says:

Compared to all the other musicians the industry has manufactured, her lyrics actually mean something. They talked right through me, speaking to America and everything we're going through…. corruption, oppression, abandonment, hopelessness… Just trying to hold onto a dream we know is a nightmare. USA was born to die… All we can do is watch the industry try to twist her into something she's not… Symbols photos, who knows… make her into another Gaga. But only time will tell if she's still got soul. In the mean time, I feel her words. And I don't think they are trying to hide anything. Although they speak of pleasure, the tone is very haunting and cynical. Nothing like the hedonism that Gaga and Perry and all other puppets have been trying to pump into our brains…. If anything, her songs got me thinking rather than numbing me.

    • lanafansowhat? says:

Thank you!!! I feel the exact same way about her music. Interesting lyrics. You are right she did mention that every song actually meant something she went through

  63. Anon says:

Oh come on! This is getting ridiculous. The songs stay in your mind because they are catchy and very, very lovely :) I think she has an amazing voice and I love the music. I don't give two hoots that she was manufactured. As the article says, most successful artists have a stage persona, it's an act! This is not new information.

When I hear something I like, I don't sit there obsessing over whether her back-story is real, or that it's really suspect that her dad is mega-wealthy, or whether her lips are real. I just like the music.

And comments saying that the industry has studied sound waves into hypnotising the masses (into doing what? seriously?), just because you've heard a catchy song, is completely over the top. Maybe you're looking for something that isn't there because the reality (that she is simply a good artist with a supportive label) is less interesting…

    • Amy Johansen says:

      Maybe, maybe not.

Being a musician/singer, and been through the system to a degree, I can tell you straight out that these singers are forced or coerced in to becoming something they're not to be successful. AND music CAN and DOES hypnotize. They may or may not research this (though I wouldn't be surprised if they do), but I can tell you, there are reasons certain types of music are used in various occult or pagan rituals. No the music is NOT inherrently evil, but the people behind it (not talking about Del Ray, but her label and what-not), can be, and that IS what the point is.

The artist are always manipulated to a degree, and its not hard to see that they're becoming more obviously so in recent years because of the internet. If it weren't for the blatant occult themes in her videos and lyrics that often hints at pedophelia, I would say you're right.

You clearly miss the point if you think ppl are talking about her appearance for the sake of that alone, people are talking about it because in the entertainment industry, a change in appearance often signals their transformation in to the persona they are being molded in to through trauma based mind control.

There are just too many things going on here to ignore, if it was just one thing here one thing there, that'd be one thing, but its not. She probably has no idea what's really going on, the artist often do not, they are merely puppets. And I have seen this happen to people first hand, go from being lively and happy to being a shell of themselves because of people manipulating them.

You can deny the illuminati if you like when you do the same research as vigilant has (he's read numerous books from authorities on the occult, monarch programming, etc, etc and he suggest a few in the educate yourself section), until you then you are merely shouting at the wind, you have nothing to back up your claims except maybe a few internet searches.

I disagree – as a former session musician I was also involved in the music business for a long time and I saw nothing ritualistic, demonic (apart from some serious guitar shredding!) or anything to suggest that we were being manipulated beyond making us more marketable (and we were fully aware of this as it happened) – which can apply to most industries.

The occult symbols in all these videos are part of a fashion trend – fashion and art always push boundaries. So you don't like them and you believe they are evil. What's the alternative? Censorship? That is much, much worse. The symbols and evil beats (as you call them) only mean as much as you want them to. They mean nothing to me.

One final thing – in no way does the Lana del Rey video or her lyrics hint at paedophilia. That's just twisted.

Life is not a horror film and there is no cosmic good vs. evil battle. There are very real problems that are happening around us – just look at the global economy, there are wars brewing in the Middle East and climate change is starting to adversely affect us all. You'd do as well to invest your time in researching these real time events rather than worrying about angels and demons.

    • GrowingUp31 says:

It is said that Lucifer, more commonly known as Satan, is associated with music and he was the head of the music department in heaven. After his fall, he has had over thousands of years on earth to do a really deep and thorough study of music. He is also said to be the father of lies, and it takes a lot of brains and skills to be an extremely awesome liar. It proves that he's brilliant.

If you notice, not all types of music fit for all occasions.

For example, during funerals, nobody in their right mind would play the tunes of Wedding March and during a wedding, it would be weird if Requiem is played. The reason is to set the audience's mood right for the occasion, and mood is affected by the brain and the heart. If your heart is uneasy, your mood won't be all bubbly and sunny.

In the hymnals, the songs have predictable beats. Either 3/4, 4/4, 6/8… you know, those 'boring, conservative' beats. There's a reason for that: to set the hearts and minds of the worshipers to be receptive for the right mood. Done right, congregation would be feeling peaceful and spiritual for the next phase of worship.

There's a certain beat that's not healthy for mankind. I don't remember all the exact details, but studies shown that this irregular beats cause the heart to work harder and faster, pumping much more blood than necessary, making a person more prone to a future heart problems. This kind of beats are more commonly used in modern songs.

Certain beats also can cause a person's mind to be very receptive to a message.

Music, if studied properly, can be a very dangerous tool. It really affects us. I believe that the melodies by themselves are meant to prepare our minds and hearts for the message – the lyrics – that are being transmitted. Not all songs and composers do that on purpose (studying music really deeply would take a long time and a huge pain in the ass), as there are songs made just for the sake of entertainment. But, with Lucifer's guide, I believe there are those that are using music to affect us.

      • Anon says:

That's just bonkers. Thinking like that will just result in you missing out on a lot of amazing music.

    • GrowingUp31 says:

As a matter of fact, it has been proven scientifically. Do your own research if you like. I do not 'think' it that way. I took up music and had the blessings to have a great lecturer that not only taught my class what was required to pass, but also opened our eyes to the darker side of music.

By the way, music also affect the growth of plants. It proves you how powerful music can be.

However, at the end of the day, it's up to you to believe or not.

      • Anon says:

Really? It's been proved scientifically has it? In which journals? Can you provide valid references to respected papers? Thats journal papers, not newspapers incidentally.

If you can source empirical data that has been rigorously tested enough times with results that prove your hypothesis, and from the established publications, then I might take what you're saying seriously. Until then I'm just going to think that you're either a fundamental Christian who wants to ban 'Devil music', or you are just believing in fantastical things because real life is boring to you.

Don't get me wrong, I love this site, it's great fun to read – and I do think the current trends for occult symbolism in music videos are creepy. BUT, to start saying that music is the work of the devil is practically Mediaeval.

        Psychology of music: http://www.google.com/search?q=studies+on+music+a

This is in response to those who believe it's incredulous to associate music with behavior or that music does not influence behavior.

Some years back, I read an article (don't remember the source – so tickle me) where, in an effort to reduce and prevent violence at bus stops, community members decided to have classical music playing at the stops. Not sure how this turned out, but I don't know how gangster you can get to Meditation de Thais in the background.

Also, when I played basket ball, a lot of us would listen to rap or some energetic music to get us amped and allay any nerves.

Finally, there's this thing called music therapy, where music is used for rehabilitative purpose. I don't know about you anon but I find it hard to believe they'd play death metal in a therapy session…idk…these days you can never tell right?

@anon: I knew I should not sell my books and throw away my notes. O.o'

However, I found several websites that are interesting regarding the subject we are debating. Here's one:

        http://www.cerebromente.org.br/n15/mente/musica.h

Here's another link discussing the effects of music on the human body:

        http://www.groundreport.com/Health_and_Science/No

For those that does not believe that music, indeed, is a subject that is very deep and complicated, do check this link:

        http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/sound/u11l3

Yes, music even is related to physics.

Something that I remember clearly from one of my classes:

The heart's normal rhythm is BUP – bup – bup – bup. The 'loudest' is in the very beginning (check your own heart pulse). This is why when playing piano, the first beat is the loudest: to go according to the heart's natural rhythm. However, there are songs that use irregular rhythm such as bup – BUP – bup – BUP or bup – bup – bup – BUP. These kind of beats affect the heart, and your heart will pulse against its natural rhythm. Any logical person would realize that it is not healthy for the heart.

Also, I have compiled several quotes from reliable authors and researchers:

Dr. Max Schoen wrote, "Music is the most powerful stimulus known among the perceptive senses. The medical, psychiatric and other evidence for the non-neutrality of music is so overwhelming that it frankly amazes me that anyone should seriously say otherwise" (Dr. Max Schoen, The Psychology of Music, 1940).

"Through foolishness they, the people, DECEIVED THEMSELVES into thinking that there was no right or wrong in music that it was to be judged good or bad by the pleasure it gave." (Plato, Laws as quoted by Tame, David The Secret Power of Music, p. 189)

Musicologist Julius Portnoy found that not only can music, "change metabolism, affect muscular energy, raise or lower blood pressure, and influence digestion," but "It may be able to do all these things more successfully … than any other stimulants that produce those changes in our bodies." (Tame, David, The Secret Power of Music, p. 138).

How does music help? Some studies show it can lower blood pressure, basal-metabolism and respiration rates, thus lessening physiological responses to stress. Other studies suggest music may help increase production of endorphins (natural pain relievers) and S-IgA (Salivary immunoglobulin A). S-IgA speeds healing, reduces the danger of infections, and controls the heart rate. Studies indicate both hemispheres of the brain are involved in processing music. Dr. Sacks explains, "The neurological basis of musical responses is robust and may even survive damage to both hemispheres" ("Music's Surprising Power to Heal," 8/92 Reader's Digest).

I do not condemn any kind of music (but to be honest, I cannot stand listening to Rebecca Black's songs). But I do know which kind of music I should let myself listen to, or not. There are rock, rap, pop, hiphop, etc. songs that I like. 'Video Game' is a nice song – I never said it is a terrible one. However, the effects the music have on me makes me uneasy, and those effects are the ones that makes me cautious of her songs. I have not listened to her singing live, so I cannot say whether she's a good singer or not.

I am open to listen to any songs, but I observe my body reactions to any music I listen to. There are songs that are nice and intriguing, but if my body strongly reacts against them, I know I should not listen to those songs again, no matter if the songs are Grammy-Award winners or in the top 10 list of all time.

I never said music is the work of the Devil. What I said was that Lucifer, the being these occultic Illuminati are worshiping, was in charge of music before his fall. And, considering the thousands of years he have on earth, I am optimistic he knows the tricks, dangers, and manipulation of music. Due to this, one should be careful to what one is listening to, for there may be hidden dangers subtly put in a song, no matter how beautiful or harmless the song may be. Pay attention to your body reactions – your heart's rhythm, your mood, your feelings, your actions toward others during/after listening to the song, etc. Your body knows what is good and bad for you.

You don't even need to study music to know that music is not a neutral element. A good musician can manipulate your feelings – making you happy, sad, angry, agitated, calm, sleepy, hyper, etc.

I am a Christian, but that does not mean I reject any song that has no reference to God or Christ in them and accept all songs that are produced by the modern praise bands. As I said before, I pay attention to what my body is telling me whenever I listen to songs, and decide for myself which song I should listen to and which song I should just reject.

I don't pretend to believe all of what is said here, but there is some very weird stuff going on in media, economics and world governance, beyond the more obvious front issues, and the more you read in this 'conspiracy' realm, the more you may shed your skepticism about it. I was more skeptical, too, until I really, REALLY started paying attention, and doing research into things like MK-Ultra, Project Paperclip, etc. I do think that there is a dark underworld where media, military and shadowy business interests operate outside of the law and public awareness. For instance, why have we allowed the media to be captured by a handful of consolidated companies that control global news and entertainment? When an organization has that much power, it's entirely possible that at least some individuals within in may have their own hidden agenda.

Also, it rambles and is poorly organized because it is a self published free digital book and did not have the benefit of a professional editor. Some use this as an excuse to dismiss it. Springmeier has also been dismissed as a right wing kook and systematically discredited by the powers that be, but many people take that as a confirmation of what he wrote. Well said, and it's also a clear cut example of the classic Madonna/wh*re complex, taken to extremes. The bad girls wants s*x, well, then, she has to die a fiery death, burned at the stake like a witch for daring to seek pleasure. It's also about the unconsicousness of this couple and how it has deadly consequences – she trusts herself to a man who 'falls asleep at the wheel' and kills her. I think the 'goddess' Del Rey singing alone in the church represents the feminine archetype that the 'real' Del Rey emanated from while she was alive. That's a very Gnostic, alchemical concept – the royal pair, the King and Queen (god and goddess) who are the template for all of us, created in Their image.

I first thought of of Mazzy Starr or Cowboy Junkies (yes, I'm probably showing my age here but someone out there will remember this sort of early 90s alternative stuff, I hope) but while the sound was similar, the imagery was from somewhere else .. .. then it hit me: David Lynch. The surreal, retro flash backs, dingy jazz dives/ seedy caberet clubs / grainy 16mm clips of lost childhood innocense… not to mention entertainment industry sex slaves … Maybe it's just the Lana/Laura Turner thing that made me think of it… but Del Ray would have fitted perfectly into the Twin Peaks/Blue Velvet imagery and sound (not to mention the whole abuse/ MKU slave thing inherent in all David Lynch shite)… Just a thought but maybe this will click with someone else out there…

Also shown through the opposite colors, white in the church, and allways dark when she's with the guy. And also the song itself is opposed: born to die…

In the end i think the guy is satan, he holds her in his arms but she literally looks like a sacrifice in burning hell. The guy still lives though she sings WE were born to die. This is just another case were the video is has a double meaning, the right meaning is hidden in plane sight.

A quote by Alan "cutting through the matrix" Watt -

"I went through a book before with you on the radio to do with ‘America’s Cultural Cold War’ on how the CIA, from the OSS onwards, with Britain working with it, decided to give a whole new culture and it had to be based on literally creating a youth generation that would be drastically different from its parent group. They decided to bring in what became known as ‘pop’ then ‘rock’ music; the ‘hippie’ era.

In the ‘hippie’ era they knew how to introduce it because they tried it in the 1920’s in Germany on a smaller scale. So they reintroduced it along with drugs. Sandoz was the big company there to push out the LSD. They sent out rock stars or the budding rock stars across the country. They were funded by the CIA. Many of the guys who ran these rock groups were from military families and ex military themselves. They had the Laurel Canyon Group in California of course and Frank Zappa and different ones were there. They belonged to the Frankfurt School and they had other ones being worked through, as I say, the Macy Group and their offsprings at Harvard University.

They put out front men who had been in the CIA. A Mr. Brockman eventually came out of the military and started immediately as an investment banker. His job was to create artists and make them superstars from nothing; people who would starve to death with tin cans were to be made famous for the new culture…" / end of quote.

And that is perhaps why Frank Zappa was in a position to say this also:

“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.”

Btw – I never liked Zappa's music but now I know the agenda behind it all, so, it's no wonder really…

Google the lyrics, if you want them; they ARE very relevant to the video btw..

The video ends and begins with Lana and the guy who plays her lover through out the video, with a normal, as in non inverted star, nothing like that, American flag as the backdrop of the two embracing without their shirts. You could run wild with what this means, it could mean a lot of stuff you could dream up. I think it's just a good way to start and cap the vid nicely, portraying the "all American" image presented in the video; the two certainly do have a pseudo-"all American" relationship/story portrayed in this video, which I'l get into in a sec.

Next we see Lana dressed in all white, (purity) sitting on a throne-looking seat, inside a lush, huge overbearingly bright, either; church, temple, or something of that sort. She wears a crown of roses on her head, which I've noticed in a lot of her various cover art and promo pics; I think it just means more of what this place as a whole partially represents; peace, joy, ect. She also has two tigers, who are docile/non-threatening (at least to HER, which is the point) at either side of her, I think they represent safety, but I have another idea on them that I'll say later. The tigers aside, she is all alone in here, as she sings though out the video, it cuts often to her singing on her "throne," between the "main story" parts. I'll get into what I believe this place IS and means later. For now, I'll just say this place represents the "light half" of the video, while the next represents the "dark half."

Next are the shots of what I'll call the "main story" parts, of this slow, but not too slow, paced video; which is fitting for the track. These are shot in a different style camera than the rich, lush, "why HD is made," long a$$ shots of her singing in the "temple," they are more dark in contrast to the pure light of the temple. I don't think this is just because most of these parts take place at night, I think its to show drastic contrast/duality (black/white) between the temple and the story, for a reason. This video is showing human duality overall, specifically with relationships, that's one main, maybe obvious, point the vid makes. The setting is "all American," but with a hint of "something is WRONG" underneath it all; which symbolizes many things such as society..

The story begins happily, with the two meeting up, a good assumption they were already lovers; her dropping her suitcase, in joy, they embrace in love. Its all so happy, together they drive off in his car. Both make out, get high (as the song lyrics say), laugh, make love, ect; its all great fun in the beginning times. Most of the time is spent in the car; a typical symbol of the human life. Very common dream interpretation; like if you're driving a car and wreck, it means you're life is and/or or you believe it is, a "wreck." As their time progresses, things seem tenser, the infamous "lost highway" shot, borrowed from about every David Lynch film, represents just that; metaphorically they are just riding into lost space; the relationship going sour as well. Speaking of (my 2nd fav film director!) David Lynch, I read that his films and their soundtracks were a big part of Del Rey's inspiration on this Born To Die LP. (yes, I AM a fan of hers, but I'm trying very hard to give a non bias review here..) And it shows musically, she has a lot of Angelo Badalementi-esque (the man who ominously scored most all of Lynch's films/work) moments in her work, but I won't get off into music facts. Point is, if you have ever seen any Lynch films such as Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, or Mulholland Drive; are good examples; you'll notice a "slow dread pace," but purposefully, to build up the very SEEMINGLY "happy, all American" settings/themes/plots/ect; but in the end show the dark, sinister underbelly of the "happy" story/society. This video's story is MUCH like the plot of a disjointed Lynch film, as the tragic, now obviously doomed couple, spin more out of control, the lover becomes progressively and obviously more "evil" and very abusive to her, now roughly kissing her, acting "scary," and doing the finger motion across his neck; (which she mockingly reprises later, in a shot of her on the throne) meaning death. Which leads us to the purposefully ambiguous ending, as the downward spiral of destruction ends. There is NO way you can say for certain what happened plot wise, as it just abruptly (right after shots of him driving, disturbingly staring at her, as she looks pretty scared) shows a show of the car engulfed in flames and him; cinematically carrying her dead, bloody (symbolic often of innocent sacrifice) body in his arms away from the flames. (symbolic of destruction) Now this could suggest a car crash, as he DOES have a bad looking wound/bruise on his head, but it could be argued that she did that to him in defense. Which leads us to, did the lover purposefully kill her, and burn the car after? Its a very possible theory, but it's left up to the viewer to decide as we don't see all of the story, only can look at the stuff shown to decide. One fact is certain, she is dead.

In a sentence: A couple takes a wild drive though "life" (lyrics from the song: "come take a drive on the wild side.."), but as life takes its toll on them and their relationship, the grim reality of life is shown, in the form of death.

Which brings me to the final part of this little essay; death. The track is called "Born To Die," and as mentioned the lyrical content of the song DOES play a heavy role in the video's content. So, at the end of "the story" Lana is dead. I think the shots of her in the temple are after the story, she is singing, dead, dressed in all white, literally in the "white light," as the lyrics again say. She sings to the audience the story, as the video cuts back and forth from it. The temple = "light/white side" of this, and the "story" = "dark" side of the coin, as life can be a very dark journey often. She's dead in whatever interpretation of the afterlife the temple is, it isn't clear of any specific religion, some of the paintings/architecture suggest Christianity or Catholicism, but it isn't made certain. But more so, I think, "her specific" (or the director's, ect..) interpretation of the afterlife, where she is "safe," two huge tigers guarding her, (from harm, she's safe here, from maybe the lovers intent to harm her?? More could possibly be said about the tigers symbolic nature, but that's all I say they mean in MY interpretation.) sitting on a throne, in power; or maybe just control, of a former life; that spun out of control. Also the fact that she's alone makes me think this is her "own" idea of an afterlife, or even maybe a dream of one like, hey, a Lynch film! (another side theory..) Or it could mean, her love was so great (or insane, as the lyrics hint. "..you like your girls insane") that when it turned out so tragically, she'd prefer solitude forever in "her safe heaven." Many things point to the "he killed her" theory, I pretty much believe that, it's as if she's singing her own dark eulogy, the dark story of her murder, from a bright afterlife. "We were born to die."

There is one part toward the end where she walks down a long, giant hallway, mostly all in the DARK, (the temple is always normally bright/light..except in this small part..) of the temple. This is not the "main" temple room we see throughout the video, she also is dressed differently; it looks like they could be "sleep clothes," (still solid white though..) so perhaps the dream theory shouldn't be dismissed. Either way she, is not in "complete control" like on her throne, and seems somewhat nervous, as she walks in the dark toward a tall doorway, with what seems to be pure light behind it, as she opens it and walks though. We never see exactly where it leads to, in this disjointed video, with an out of order story; but I assume, definitely to to the huge thrown room/her heaven.

I say this is the order: The "main story" takes place, she dies, finds herself walking through a half dark/half lit (from the door crack) hallway, and walks toward the light (which, sure one COULD go out on a limb and say that means illumination aka ▲Iluminati▲, but I don't believe everything involving light represents THAT; and not in this case; doesn't fit into this video's story..), which is her personal afterlife, where she reflects on her melancholy life and the story of her once "happy" relationship with her lover, that leads to her death. She, sings, the songs lyrics, which reflect the entire thing. (and there's SEVERAL other lyrical references in the video I didn't point out, that you can look for)

So there is my interpretation of Lana Del Rey's music video for "Born To Die." I hope you enjoyed, if you decided to read it. Remember, there are SO many different people in this world, all with drastically different ideas/opinions; this is just mine. :)

It's not "some temple" it's what was, until the demonically inspired French Revolution, a Roman Catholic chapel.

What is behind her is an Altar. Where, prior to the ravages of the revolutionaries, the Holy Sacrifice of Mass was offered and where Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was present.

They have enthroned the tramp there, just as the demonically inspired revolutionaries enthroned their prostitutes on our Altars.

The chapel in question is in Fontainebleau castle, which since the demon inspired French Revolution has been in the control of secularists.

Weather you want it or not, the music business is… a business. It's all about marketing and selling.

So it's perfectly normal that they changed her since she wasn't profitable before and created something so she would sell. It's done over and over.

I'm not denying the theories, I'm just saying that her change doesn't surprise me marketing wise.

  88. Annia says:

She also changed her voice. Now she tries to always sing in a low voice. I think she said it wasn't her natural voice so it failed sometimes.

  89. Chrisb says:

I think a lot of people commenting here seem to misunderstand one ofthe fundamental premises of VC's take on the 'Music Iindustry Conspiracy' (to which I mostly subscribe). It's not that random artists seem to draw upon and replicate escoteric symbolism – that can be easily explained away as mindless repetition and replication of our shared cultural imagery and symbolism, such as raising their fingers in the 'devil' sign or copying the covered eye – but rather that the 'chosen ones' who inexplixably 'make it ' amidst the multittude of talent out there always seem to be 'on message'. If it was random and just a matter or talent, wouldn't there be the occasional alternative view point? Of course it's not all perfectly 'on song' but the message keeps being hammered home and the ridiculously restricted talent pool of sparkly, 'unique', 'randomly discovered' artists always seem to transform from thier bland ordinary-but-talented originis into brilliant Black Swans who invariably crash and burn on the road of destruction without ever getting to the promised tower of wisdom 'Do what the wilt'…. and wilt they all do. But then the whole charade is reborn, with a shiny new star… with exactly the same message. And isn't it getting bloody boring!

YES! I sent VC an email about this weeks ago and I didn't expect him to actually write an article about it, regardless if you read my email or not, thank you so much for publishing this!!! People need to wake up and see that Lana isn't all that special, just another product for the consumers!

  91. GoAskAlice says:

Instead of getting your knickers in a twist about how her songs get stuck in your head, and how modern music is 'scarily hypnotic', just don't listen to them. Most of you seem very aware about the problems of modern popular music. If you think it's problematic then why endorse it by listening/being involved in that culture?

The simple solution would be to just avoid it. Switch off the radio. Fill your i-pod with something other than pop, or give up using it. Your life doesn't depend on pop music. Just leave it alone.

Just listened to a couple of her songs again. Nice sound but not even vaguely original…. Chris Isaac meets Kate Bush meets Mazzy Star, with David LYnch inspired film clip/ stage persona (does anyone remember that weird dingy jazz thing running throughout Twin Peaks?) ….. and Laura Palmer was most certainly Born to Die … in a most disturbing, MKU-themed way… An innocent appearing small US town with a deranged undercurrent of drugs/sexual depravity and all controlled by a sinister cult… Her film clips really are literally Lynch-ian, as is her stage performances. Let's hope Lana doesn't take it all too literally!

Most of her songs touch upon a morbid obsession with self hate, death and depression. Lana admitted in recent interview, that she suffers from bipolar.

A song called "Put me in a Movie" from her first album, seems to be about child abuse and prostitution from a narrators POV. The song reminded me of a recent article written on VC in regards to pedophilia in hollywood. Lana is being sold in the media as being a classy hollywood glamourpuss meets dark and edgy popstar. MK Ultra anyone?

There's been a famous-for-nothing and rich-girls-turned-famous theme going on here for the last few years. I think the agenda right now is to turn people into mindless consumers that perpetually chase the illusory luxury dream. Notice all the commercials try and sell you luxury, too? What better way to divert people's attention, right? I think this kind of marketing is really selling you selfishness and lack of consideration for your fellow living beings. I think that's why Jesus was so against profiteering, it diverts people from doing the important things in life, like caring for one another. My, what a strange planet this has become. It truly is a plastic world in every sense of the word. Plastic entertainers, plastic "beauty", plastic food, plastic pollution, plastic gyres in the ocean, plastic debt, plastic money, plastic politicians, plastic lives. Put in that perspective…if plastic means artificial and artificial also means fake, then I guess those who claim we live in an illusory "holographic" world are kind of right. Maybe, I guess. I don't know. I always gain new, weird insights when I come here. Go figure!

      Literally bee-stung lips, no?

Joke aside, I really wonder if Lana's truly aware of what's going on in the industry and what she's getting into. I used to like the first 3 songs that I heard from her (Videogames, Blue Jeans, Diet Mtn Dew) on a rather independent music blog. They are different from the 21st century cookie-cutter 'pop' music formula (autotune, electronic &/or hip-hop beats). However, I was rather turned off by her music when I first watched the music video for Born To Die.

Likewise how many new entrants to the music industry are even aware of it–"mainstream" or "independent" who are signed to a record label of sorts? I see lots of "indie" artistes and bands incorporating a lot of symbolisms mentioned here into their album/single covers, photo shoots and music videos.

It can indeed be fustrating to find so many lost in the dark when you are ready to stand before the full light of day, knowing all the while that we are all in this together and that they are holding us all back … but try to be compassionate and understand that were it any other way, we wouldn't be where we are now : which is right where we need to be, right here, right now: with pure light in full sight. It's bloody infuriating, I know, to watch friends, family and collegues sink into the shadowy wolrd of selfishness, greeed and self indulgence through their ignornece , but despite the intoxicating allure of the dark, it can only lead to pain, delusions and suffering… and that can only illuminate the truth even more brightly…. maybe we shoud try to think of them as two year olds and try to transfer that degree of patience and tolerence, reminding ourselves to react to our fellow man as you would a child … cute, lovely and innocent … but naive and some times naughty …. and always in need of love, acceptence and guidance. We have to love and nurture them as best we can, retaining our faith in the creator to deliver them unto the truth. They can only get there through patience and love, not condemnation and hatred….. Ultimatey all that is wrong in the world is what is right. We need to be able to see our errors … and know that we shall be forgiven for them …. understanding that they are but guides to the truth…. All is well, despite all the imperfections and frustrations this moment brings. We WILL get there in the end, so mayybe we should all try to relax a bit and focus instead on reconnecting with our faith in the grand design. It seems silly to struggle against such a perfect system…. the darkest hour is just before the dawn. Even if you can 't see the light, al least have faith that it is but moments away

I WANT my woman to feel about me the way she describes her all consuming love for her man…

It makes me cry like a little child… hard..

I've cried so hard in the last several days, I'm absolutely wiped out emotionally and somewhat physically….

In certain songs, seems not a vocal experiment but different personalities of Lana.

BTW, maybe "del Rey" is spanish. Direct translation = "of the King". Lana of the King.

  120. xxxx says:

i gotta admit..i love her music.

  121. emjee says:

I watched her BTD video. What a lame suck ass serpent. Now you don't even have to be famous to reference Jesus. Now you can do it from out of the barbie doll box and pretend to be edgy.

References in the BTD video which are sad and ignorant since she's probably not even smart enough to come up with them herself.

She's wearing a crown of blue roses. This is in contrast to a crown of thorns.

Michelangelo's Pieta is also referenced in the end of the video. She's laying across the tattooed guys arms similar to Jesus laying across the Virgin Mary's arms in Michelangelo's masterpiece.

The whole song she is singing we were BTD. No bitch, we were born to live.

The song BTD is can be filed under BVD. This shit stain isn't even good enough to exist on the crotch panel of a BVD.

  122. ari says:

the fact that people are making a big deal about her changing, is part of the whole plan.

What I have found is that "THe Planners" as i call it, are using people's ignorant knowledge of the Illuminati and Freemasons, to make money off of it

E.g. Lady Gaga…now this girl, who know one cares about.

Her fans are upset, no doubt, if she was a true artist, the selacious hunger for fame wouldn't exist…it's very strange

  123. carolyn says:

If you watch her SNL performance of Blue Jeans in the beginning of the video she throws up the satanic devil horns sign very strongly and with purpose …

I guess I understand how she rose to fame so quickly now…

  124. Barom says:

The sultry voice & soothing music are the tools of Satan to sway your thoughts and emotions. One after another they release someone new to the scene. Time and again they do this to bring in new followers to their evil MTV brainwashing academy of sheeplings who will be too tranced to realize what is really happening in the real(secret) world today.

  125. Tracy says:

I listened to some of her songs and read the lyrics. She has quite a bit of curse words in her album. I am surprised that a parental advisory label wasn't placed on it.

  126. jamie says:

    del ray: of the king

    Lana : wool

Maybe king of the sheep, the whole sheeple thing maybe they are tryin to have a private joke with us.

Or maybe its the wolf in sheeps clothing thing.

  127. Blackraven7 says:

Ok,..so this girl is apparently, Born to die. Yet, she dies in the arms of the man who was holding her in the beginning of the video. So, does it mean that she knew she was going to die from the person that was so called 'protecting' her? Or did she just know she was going to die someday,..so she decided to live recklessly, and wound up dead from some guy she wuz makin out with?

  128. Raven says:

Well i like her music and honestly i dont think she had a deal with devil. If she did ok i dont care! its a pitty though because she seems a good person.I have read all the aboves and i am feeling sorry for her! I dont know what to believe! I am in love with her voice and her songs! Anyway i care about the helpless people/the Africa people without food, home, vaccines etc, about poverty, illness than an Illuminati music industry or conspiracy. Come on people i do believe in God but ok truth will shine! Jesus is the only one and i dont care for any illuminati tricks!

  129. This girl is everywhere (and with good reason from the puppeteers perspective I suspect). It does ring alarm bells when these 'stars' are thrust into the limelight from relative obscurity.

  130. LolaE says:

@faceinthecrowd very eloquently said my fellow friend I figured thiS same theory out by getting my cable turned off and my mind started seeking other means of stimulation… Also your point of the elite is similar to mine becuz I have always known that no other human being or group of human beings will never have controll over u unless u give in. So I nvr wave my flag and use my brain against these forces because knowledge is power true power. So basically, I figured being a pop entertainer in our modern times is like willingly surrendering to a group off demented people trying to push a unnatural agenda onto the masses that's y I don't look at any of these lapdogs I mean people (hehehe) with envy I laugh because I know in the long run if I continue using my head I win in the long run and they lose. And also I will definatley inquire about this science of music you mentioned so well so I can get schooled some more and get more game just like you lol :)

  131. snockalpiss says:

pfft… hey VC, while you're talking about some chick i've quite frankily never heard of, this kind of phenomenon is not that uncommon at all (hence it's phenomenon status) in fact, turn your glances over to electronic music and you can see one of their newfound darlings will be PLAYING @ THE GRAMMYS, and that darling would be skrillex.

i can't be bothered to look through magazines/online-website-interviews, but i guarantee the dude is striking a pose or two that follows the playbook you seem to outline once every two weeks. i noticed that his logo (http://whiiite.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/skrillex-scary-monsters-and-nice-sprites-ep-cover1.jpg) has a prominent | | | thing, i.e. the three stripes/lines thing which i'm sure you can speak about (beyond the fact that adidas has made it quite fashionable) and of course, looking at his logo features the broken/shattered glass motif which is HUGE this year (i was !!! to see it employed by WGN on the graphics for every logo-laden replay cutaway, in fact, far be it for me to suggest a story but i reckon you could look around the whole of massmedia and say that there's an awful lot of glass breaking/shattering going on lately, which the doomsayers and fear-wielding amongst us could say is a sign that a lot of us dolls/toys/consumer-programs are gonna get broken pretty soon, one way or another)

AHEM. but back to skr| | |ex… i've been around electronic music "communities" for years, and his recent meteoric rise to "stardom" (perhaps another article could be on why we're programmed to think being a "star" is good, or heck, why are we conditioned to accept pentagrams as stars from very early/impressionable ages… that's some of the en masse programming that goes on everywhere) has been a topic of much contention on forums for the aforementioned electronic music "communities." i read one account, given by someone who claimed that his story was there to be believed or not believed, is that skrillex (gasp) isn't that good at making music at all, however, his post-emo / drug-laden "meth-head" type image and overall demeanor were deemed to be quite marketable by the powers that be (after all, do you want kids to grow up idolizing some boring nondescript french guy who's merely good @ making music? comeon now) so they in fact went around to a bunch of very skilled but inherently non-marketable dubstep producers and got them to make crisp professional tracks for skrillex, who then would tinker on top of them with sophomoric-at-best melodies and lyrics and whatnot.

i know for a fact that skrillex, aka sonny moore, was on forums such as the 8-bit collective back in 2008 asking if people had a pirated copy of fruity loops studio v8.0 (a popular sequencer in the amateur/ish electronic music world), so if the fairy tale is to be believed, in roughly 2 years or less skrillex went for ASKING FOR PIRATED COPIES OF A BABY'S-FIRST-SEQUENCER TYPE PROGRAM to making crisp calculated professional-grade massmedia-ready dance music…. heck, for the more "conspiratorial" types among us, skrillex didn't even "formally" change over to electronic music until something like mid-late 2009 or thereabouts, and he had an active myspace page where he posted some of his first tracks under his full electronic music rebranding, and they were utterly basic and laughably bad…. so then he kind of disappeared for ~6 months or thereabouts, no new tracks no real bluster from him, but then he emerges in ~mid 2010 with these tracks that are infinitely better than anything he's ever made, he's suddenly signed by pop-techno maven deadmau5 (and i'm sure you'd find ABSOLUTELY NO SYMBOLISM WHATSOEVER WITH HIS GIMMICK — http://www.clashmusic.com/files/imagecache/big_no… who i reckon has one of those record labels that purports to be its own mid-major "indie" type thing but is really just a major record company saying "we trust you to go and find us more bonafide 'stars' so we'll give you a subsidiary and let you do your thing so the kids think your artists are more hip than being on "some crusty old major record company" — nonetheless, his first EP was formally released on an "informal" major record label on october 25 2010, and well, here we are roughly 1.5 years later and this kid is going to be performing @ the grammy's in a week or two.

so how's that for an artifically created rise from nothingness/obscurity to playing @ the grammy's in under 2 years? in fairness, back when he was just plain ol "sonny moore" the kid was in some sort of "emo" or "screamo" band that *I* never heard of, from first to last, and i think they had some fairly/major label releases over the years that he was in the band so it's quite possible that he had flirtations with "stardom" and perhaps was even flat out told "you've got 'it' kid, but you'll never make it in one of these rock bands… perhaps you should ditch those guys and go become an electronic musician, where the soundscape is more easily controllable/ghostwriteable and therefore we can take your 'it' factor and marry it with contemporary professional grade electronic pop music (no different than a lady gaga or any "pop diva", except for the fact he doesn't actually sing or play instruments, no, he just thrashes around the stage like an idiot and then "goes nuts" jumping in/around the crowd doing anything to distract you from the fact that he's a complete phony essentially playing mp3s off of a laptop when you go to see him "live" — but like i said b4, the kicker is that he really doesn't even make his own music…. save trivial/inconsequential/bad parts that are like icing on the proverbial cake. so now electronic/dance music is officially being used as a medium to propel little post/emo druggies like him into the limelight to help glorify a lifestyle of decadence, chemical abuse, consequent chemical dependance, and ultimately, complete and total necessity for the great societal combine to keep churning because baby needs some professionally-made-chemicals from mama's teat in order to keep himself from crying due to the inherent pain of loneliness that comes from living in a cold dark world without the chemicals you're so in love with.

so yeah, quite honestly man, while i do have my electronic music slant and all, i've never heard of this chick…. but skri| | |ex is playing the damn grammy's in a week or two, so if you feel up to deviating from your usual pop-diva fare and wanna dig up a new can of worms that is inherently less sexy than a mickey-mouse-eared rihanna in a leopard skin catsuit dancing around the barrel of a giant tank gun while the stormtroopers breakdance behind her (actually, is their gear too heavy or can there be some breakdancing faceless police state stormtroopers? tell you what, when i get my music video i promise you breakdancing faceless police state stormtroopers. if i gotta kiss the ring to get a proper massmedia video done, i'll make sure my "creative input" at least has fun with some of these concepts you've hammered home in your instruction manual, UHHHMMMM SORRY, perpetual warnings about how these massmedia videos get done =)

the most brilliant part about you is that you never say which "side" you're on, if any. for all i know, you could be a guy in the industry whose job is to SEEM overtly concerned with all of this stuff so people do their stereotypical WAKE UP SHEEPLE thing, but really, for all i know you're a well paid media guy whose job is to document this stuff cuz you DO want to get it out there how brilliant it all really is, cuz no matter what we think of it deep down and whatnot… it all IS pretty brilliant if you stop and think about it. and if you consider the elite establishment the enemy, you'd be a damn fool to not respect them.

    # sir snockalpiss of the 30+7word OUT!

  132. Delia says:

The funny thing is that when I opened the VC page now I was listening Lana del Rey! hahaha… couple of days ago when i found her I was just wondering if I can see any Illuminati symbols in there( her video Born To Die) and then I wondered if she would eventually finish on VC. Anyway the song is great, I didn't even know who sang it, I searched for the lyrics on internet and found her. It's obvious that she used plastic surgery on her lips.

  133. aloof says:

I can see that there are a lot of VC first time readers on this post saying that music don’t affect us,how about you tell that to those prisoners who are being tortured in america, physically and mentally, wait for it -By making them to listen music, and the artist themselves complained and did not want their songs being used. I have read this in the newspaper but I gotta search it on the net, will send links though…
I never understood about music was the superficial part of it,I expect the actor and actress to worry about looks as they are bankable on their looks, but singers are there to sing. Believe it or not I’m not a music fan,bt listen to occational good music, the indies non famous ones.
I never liked the music of nor the singers – Britney or any disney downward spiral singer or actress, beyonce, shakira katy perry and especially lady gaga, never understood how people liked her,her singing is just sooo bad, singers should not use clothes or sexuality to sell music, you either a good or bad singer,bt in this mordern era everybody cares about is that But music…
I have heard Lanas songs and and amazed at how much of talent she has,she can sing live, except the snl episode, her songs are hypnotic, its Good to see someones real voice and not autotone, maybe they are targeting people like me who don’t like the bubblegum songs that have to much rave like, and Bad singing looking at you beyonce n Gaga…its a shame interscope saw her as a product and not talent and repackaged her as a melting barbie. That’s a music industry for you.

  134. Dan says:

Pop culture, and the music world in particular–consider who controls it–is like going to a reverse freak show at the circus. It's reversed in the sense that in this show it's the freaks who mockingly display humans in bondage and sexual degradation. Nothing but nothing gives the freaks a bigger charge in life than sexually degrading our young and beautiful women, except making millions off it all. Go ahead, keep watching SNL and music videos. It's like paying the freaks for the privilege of spitting in the mirror.

  135. Zweena says:

It gives me the chill when I was listening to "Born to Die" and it does get stuck in my head. If you view the music video again. You will notice, she covers one of her eyes (precisely at 2.00 minutes) go ahead and check it out. Is it a coincidence? I don't think so. But I do love her 60's style.

  136. Kaley says:

I saw this article and looked into this singer a little more. After deciding I liked her sound I bought her album. She is a very gifted singer with a very unique style.

Something interesting though is she has a song called "Dark Paradise".

Coincidence? VC talks in some articles how "paradise" is a term used for MK-Slaves who have reached dissociation. Now, she could definitely be talking about the paradise everyone knows, tropical beaches, blah blah blah.

But the fact that the song is called "DARK Paradise" makes it known that she is not associating her get away with something pleasant.

The song at face value seems to be her singing about being in love with a guy who has gone away, but she won't stop loving him no matter what.

If you listen to the lyrics closely though, they are kind of creepy, which isn't usually a word used to describe love.

The chorus is, "Every time I close my eyes

    It's like a dark paradise

    No one compares to you

I'm scared that you won't be waiting on the other side"

Sounds to me like she is confusing the control her handler has over her for love, or maybe safety, and after dissociating she worries he won't be waiting for her when she comes back to reality.

    Or something.

Other lyrics in the song support this ideas, such as,

"And there's no remedy for memory

your face is like a melody

    it won't leave my head

Your soul is haunting me and telling me

    That everything is fine

But I wish I was dead"'

"There's no relief, I see you in my sleep

And everybody's rushing me, but I can feel you touching me

There's no release, I feel you in my dreams

    Telling me I'm fine"

Not what I want my true love to feel like.

Of course I could very well be wrong. Just wanted to bring this to attention.

  137. Paper raper says:

I do believe I heard her say "living in the rain man's paradise" in her song "radio".

and as i continued to listen to her music, a lot of the lyrics are about submission and living a better life.

  138. Late Night Reader says:

Check this out! I tripped out on the pics. Notice anything funny?

  139. Late Night Reader says:

Lana Del Rey in spanish means money or treasure of the king. Weird.

  140. Joycelyn says:

The one thing that can't be manufactured is heart and, based on the one song I've heard (Video Games), Lana's heart is in the right place. After all, it's OK to evolve. That's what we're born to do. Does it really matter if she's stuck stuff in her lips? Beyonce, a modern day phenomenon, wears elaborate weaves but they don't stop her from doing her thing. Does SHE write all of her own songs? Has she never had professional guidance? You could argue that from an early age, Beyonce was herself 'manufactured' to be a star. I don't think it matters. Freedom is all about expression and Lana/Lizzie is free to express herself anyway she chooses. As are we all. I think what the backlash shows is that we are hungering for the real. Shows like the X Factor (which ironically have anything but!) have become a cynical exercise in marketing. Say what you like about Lana but Video Games sounds fresh and original. It's beguiling and I like that because very few things are.

  141. Ashley says:

I happen to think Blue Jeans is one of the most amazing songs ive heard. I think she is beautiful. Her snl performance was shit, we all know that. Are people not able to make a mistake?

She had plastic surgery.. so people arent allowed to make themselves look and feel better?

She didnt succeed as lizzie grant.. so what.. people arent allowed to do anything possible to make sure their dreams come to fruition?

Please. Im sick of people making a huge deal about her. Shes great. shes different.

With the kim kardashians and jersey shore whores of the world, we cant seem to cut ANYONE break.

people always ALWAYS want to see people fall.

    the end :)

  142. Ignoblius says:

I wouldn't read too much into the name "Del Rey". Someone was probably thinking about where he keeps his boat.

  143. Dionne says:

Her album is the bomb! Her music is so much better than Lady Gaga's. And more importantly, she just got here, so none of you know anything about her. Jeez, I'm a fervent reader and believer of VC, but let the child live until she really does something suspect.

  144. mikeczyk says:

Her dad is one connected dude. Literally. http://dnjournal.com/cover/2008/april.htm

  145. Spoon says:

I'm not sure if anyone addressed this ( so many comments ) adding to the abrupt change in personality. The video that someone posted of Lizzie Grant singing, she is singing in a High soprano voice. Lana Del Ray sings awkwardly in a unfitting alto voice. She is not singing in her correct octave and will damage her voice in the process AKA whenever they decide to be done with her.

  146. Goober says:

I've been listening to Lana's album since release, and I noticed something that I thought was interesting. On practically every track there is either a scream (or yelling) sound effect in the background or the sound of an audience cheering/applauding. It creates an interesting subliminal effect after awhile. I figured some people would have a field day with that one :p

    • Amy says:

I thought I was the only one who noticed that!
I think it might be something to do with the torment that's experienced during mind control programming, sometimes it sounds like a child wailing ( to me, anyways).

  147. casey says:

am i the only one who doesnt know who the hell this person is?!?! im a young 20-something, trendy kid lol. i have even been called a "hipster" (which i protest) and i have never seen or heard of this lana del rey til right now. is she really worth making a fuss about?

anyway a bunch of singers do this…look at katy perry. holy christian katy hudson was broke and unpopular but as soon as she whips her boobs out and starts singing about kissing girls shes rich.

  148. I want the truth says:

Her answers for the whole interview are creepy. It's as though she's on drugs or under some trance/mind control. :/

    • Amy says:

There's no doubt that she IS under monarch mind control, SRA (Satanic Ritual Abuse) victims are usually unaware of things happening, due to the switching of personalities. Her songs are really obvious when it comes to pedophilia (Which is present in monarch programming)..Even though people will say ''It's just bdsm play.'' or things like that, they're ignoring the true meaning.

  149. Angela says:

I really love her album. The music is beautiful, hypnotic, and catchy. I agree she's obviously manufactured but I'll take Lana over Lady Gaga's BS

  150. stacy-nyc says:

ok i just heard blue jeans and i like the way it sounds with her voice. i get how they can use her as hypnotizing as people are saying but its kind of exaggerated, i am more worried about her herself than her influence on people as she portrays an innocent, shy yet pin-up looking-ish chick and i dont think anyone can take her as gaga or rihanna or madonna or any of them esp with her voice – we understand the meaning behind videos and photo shoots that they make her do but i think shes going to be another victim, not as high as gaga or what they are trying to make kate hudson the new whitney.

what freaked me out with her wearing the wreath in the church is i also recall a picture of a topless madonna wearing a wreath that i had from a magazine back in the early 90s or late 80s and it was like sarcastically mocking of the wreath to be topless just how this one is in a church, kind of how she does the horns kind of secretly for a second or two… just pray for this girl that they don't ruin her completely

  151. BearToez says:

Yo! I see what you're getting at because she does seem pretty eccentric and alot of these vigilant citizens like to get at these beautiful "seductresses" for being eccentric or morbid with their style callin' em fake or influential to the kids and all. Truthfully i think this is BS- sometimes! Cause i agree that alot of these artist such as Rhiana and Beyonce really try to do some brainwashing stuff. Lana on the other hand seems way different to me, she's still way too shy. I've seen her interviews she's still quite the shy and soft spoken type. She also says that Lana Del Rey isnt like an alter ego or 2nd person. She really doesnt show any signs of being some brainwashed puppet. She's just really different and yeah like this article says she's just trying to entertain us. She has and image and style that i dont think is all bad or "satanic". She has her own thing going for her and she did finally get noticed for it. Lets hope she doesnt go on the same path as any of these other pop artist since she is signed to the same label and i solemnly do believe its the record industries who are the real brainwashers.

    • Amy says:

Although her image isn't loaded with mind control symbolism, you can tell something is up when you really pay attention.
Just research MK ULTRA/Monarch Programming, and you might see the connection.

  152. Mick says:

THANKS, VC, another illuminati MK puppet. There's a video on YT that backs up what you say…

  155. atmu says:

notice the 11 candlesticks behind Del Rey while sitting on the throne…10, the number of perfection, and the 11th one, with a cross on it, sealing the "deal" :) …also, in the video of "video games", the hollywood stars on the pavement flash throughout the video, but, curiously, they are filmed upside down so that they are…falling stars ;)

  156. vanessa b xx says:

    her face is interesting

and not in a good way

  157. Elton Max says:

This history is tottaly fake. Everybody knows. And her first album, was not a monumental flop.

  158. James says:

I feel like a lot of people commenting are really being ignorant. For one, Lana Del Rey IS talented. SNL was her first ever American TV performance, and that's quite a big one to have. She was nervous…she even said she was nervous in an interview a few weeks before. She's usually MUCH better than that.

She writes all of her own material. And people commenting saying she's all about her looks and not about her music…..she is SO about her music. So unique and beautifully orchestrated.

Her father was apparently rich. Sorry but that does NOT mean you can easily get a music career…..clearly. This very article talks about how she has been working towards it for a while. Just because a father is rich doesn't mean he's going to completely back her…she lived in a trailer park a few years ago. There's even video of her being interviewed by some local thing and giving a tour of her trailer park.

Lana obviously had her lips done, there's no denying that. But that's it. If anything, it looked like her bleached blonde hair she had a few years ago was fake, and her dirty brown hair now looks a lot more natural.

Her first album was not "mysteriously removed" from the web. You can still find it going around. She actually said recently that they want to maybe re-release it sometime this year….she loves the album and is proud of it, it just was removed from iTunes because her indie label didn't have anymore funds to promote it on there.

As far as her image goes…….EVERY artist has an image. That's just how marketing works. Hers isn't even that out there or weird….she dressed a lot like she does now before she was famous. She's always been interested in vintage American style.

Those who criticize our generation forget who raised it. nuff' said

  161. Nina says:

All i can say is "Thank god for adele "

  162. Nick says:

I see the opposite in Lana Del Rey- she is like the anti-gaga. Her album is musically bona fide and actually very touching. It is a 5 star bubble gum pop album and is much needed in 2012. I would be happy for my daughters to listen to her content. There is a good vibration running through her music. I personally think her name change is irrelevent. The music industry is a business and her stage name is no different to your catchy website name Vigilant Citizen. Her portrayed image is no different from the fonts, colour scheme and layouts your team have so carefully selected to ensure maximum revenue from your sponsorship deals with advertisers.

I do think there is something inherently sinister about GaGa, Rihanna and Madonna and the image they promote. Exactly how sinister no one can say, only speculate. Conspiracy Theorists please keep things in perspective. There are good souls within the music industry and I must say your article on Lana Del Rey is only pointing out the basics of show business. As an example- The Beatles. They were an unknown Liverpool group of schoolboy musicians called the Quarrymen when they first began to make music. After years of work, they radically changed they're image after securing a deal with a homosexual jewish manager and soon after soared to massive fame. They had a strange record cover- "Yesterday and Today" featuring decapitated baby dolls. Was the name Ringo an illuminati creation? Were the mop top hairstyles symbolic of some satanic agenda? Was there a subconsious mind control device buried in their music? Probably not. This commercial witch hunt industry is as dangerous to impressionable people as the shadows it claims to expose. It promotes fear and unreasoned, unqualified judgements made upon people without firm evidence, only hearsay and 1+1= 666.

Please don't think I am gullible, brainwashed or an illuminati plant. I've read on these subjects and subscribed to them in the past. Work on the devil within before condemning others. Please leave this talented, hard working young woman alone and get on with improving your own life. I am sure she has feelings and this relentless scrutiny and condemnation must be very painful when you're a fragile starlet in the public eye. Take a look at yourselves. She is a human being and should be allowed to change her name and image if it feels right for her to do so. You say Big Brother is watching your every move. This is exactly what you are doing. Thank you for reading and no offence meant.

  163. Ami says:

Bah! The evil deeds of Lady GaGa – signing innocents to her label, then turning them into mind controlled freaks. How I hate the ways of the illuminati.

  164. Cody says:

Ok so I actually discovered Lana back when she released her original LP and I assumed VC would make an article about it, I have been following this website for two years now and it never stops catching my attention. Anyway the girl obviously has had work done because I remember when she was not so popular and all Lizzie. She looked completely different before..and her style of music was much less pop/hip-hop and more of something you would hear in a coffee shop or something. The music was less "hypnotizing" but it was good. When she released her single Video Games I had to take a double take when I saw her in the music video she looked completely different and before the single was released her old LP was removed from the web along with several older photos of her….I love Lana Del Rey's music but it just seems like she is headed in the wrong direction and she's going to be throwing around more Illuminati symbolism like everyone else on Interscopes label and Hollywood in general which sucks cause I really like her. (Marilyn Manson was once part of Interscopes label and he is a known Satanist, oddly enough Rey has been hanging out with him and rumors of them dating are all over the place ironic right?)

  165. cheesefries says:

honestly Lana's songs "staying in your head" allegedly too long could mostly be attributed to the fact that her music is just great. aside from whether it's "real" or not. personally i love her

  166. smart_flick says:

Lana del Rey is just a new doll of the music industry and the show-biz. Since Angelina Jolie raised to fame in 2000, every teenage girl wants to look like her. This is what explains all this invasion of the botox lipped chicks. They are a horror story with no ending and show-biz embraces them. Lana or Lizzy was just perfect the way she was, simple beautiful girl. She would have achieved quite the same look with some hair dye and with all the miracles of stage make-up nowadays. And with a good performance, it´s more than sufficient. We should stop to be so manipulated and leave this standard fake Jolie lipped created image behind, this affects too many young girls.

  167. sabrina says:

too me when she sings as "lizzy Grant" its seams like she just singing and not trying to be sexy. As when she sings as "Lana del rey" its feel like she puts this sexy mysteries show for the her fans. its different and weird when shes sings "Off to the race" witch is on of my favorite songs if "lizzy grant" would have sang this song i would have probably just stopped. but as for "lana del rey" i would have just kept playing it for hours. its just feel different when i hear "lizzy grant' sing live then "lana del rey". and to me i really thought that lana del rey was going to be a different artiest.

  168. Shawadywady says:

I love Lana Del Rey, and i won't stop listening to her music because of any article, yet alone one. However the song "God's & Monsters" really needs a checkup…

  169. Aemeth Frey says:

In fact her artificial creation is described in her song/video "Summertime Sadness". On the surface, a song of lovers' parting, but its symbolical meaning (in correlation with the video) is that it's a song of her goodbye to her own old self, sacrificed (literally killed) by her for some "higher good". There's monarch and death symbolic featured, although not as blatant as in gaga's workings. Note the trees and the very beginning (cypress trees, ancient symbol of death and afterlife, while here suggesting even more with their details: their placement far too regular for them to be of natural origin, and two of them creating probably one of the most accurate pillars of enlightenment gateway, while she stands between them and jumps off the cliff in a sacrificial pose. Symbol of her killing herself and being reborn as a new, enlightened person. Her old, innocent self is disappearing in a foggish smoke throughout the whole clip. There's a lot more in that video and song, I suggest analyzing it.

A couple of days ago I was watching a show on VH1 about the 100 greatest artists of all time. Lana Del Rey was talked about on this show briefly. The craziest thing that was mentioned about her was that "Lizzie (her old identity) is cute, but Lana you just wanna f***." Scary stuff.

  171. turquesa says:

Her haunting melodies and deep voice don't go together with the sex kitten image. It's quite a sick combination, in my opinion.

  172. Amy Johansen says:

I love how ppl say things like this, but lack the research to back it up. If you actually studied what's on this site, as well as the books vig recommends, you'de see that there is much to do with her that IS to do with the illuminati. Or maybe you just choose to be blind?

  173. Kristina says:

I think people are being rational. :) Its like I said in a previous post: "There’s a bigger truth than all of this even. And that’s the fact that life is not so bad."

  174. Kristina says:

One thing I want to add:

I don't care if she's with the agenda or not.

I don't care if she is manufactured or not.

I don't care if her career is fake or not.

I don't care if her real hair color is red or not.

I don't care how she performed on SNL.

I don't care if her name is Lizzie or Elizabeth or Lana or Mana or Bobanamonana.

What I do care about though, is the fact that her music sounds like nothing else out there right now and I thoroughly enjoy listening to it. Its moving, its beautiful, I can relate it to my life, I can dance to it, I can do my homework to it. And its not talking about big bootied bitches, at the very least.

BTW, I had actually never heard of her before this article lol. Ironically, thanks for exposing me to her :)

  175. Simone says:

oh Kritstina, you're so poor minded girl. You didn't catch the whole thing. If this is your position, why did you have to post it here in VC page? Is something bothering you?

ADVICE: Take this worry and try to work on it, and you'll be able to clarify things with yourself, 'cos it seems you're still in the moon, fairytales, dreams and so on. I don't know how old are you, but maybe you're still in that confusing age.

    Peace!

thus is the world and its ways

  177. face in the crowd says:

Go listen to April March and Fabienne Del Sol. Add some cheesy hip hop beats and…viola.

You are the worst kind of fan. You probably worship anything trending online.

Anyone who has good taste in music knows rip-off music when they hear it. Just because “you have never heard anything like it that is out there right now!!!” doesn’t mean you know whats up, because guess what? I have heard things that sound exactly like her music except they were written and produced in the nineties, up until last year. So this bitch gets label money and a lip plump and you want people to admit that we don’t know good music when we hear it? I could be wrong but…is that your point in posting? That we are all misinformed and should…follow the trend?

Go get “I love Lana Del Rey” tattooed on yourself, your comments about everyone “creating” a conspiracy theory out of anger” are not earning you any credibility here. You sound young, dumb and full of cum. Like Lana. I mean Elizabeth.

  178. face in the crowd says:

How old are you? Blind optimism is in the same boat as blind ignorance.

  179. Kristina says:

I love it when people try to insult me for no reason because they're the one that are "poor minded," as you put it. Yes, something is bothering me Simone, and its the fact that people are so caught up in the conspiracies that they create conspiracies where there are none and the fear and hatred takes over that ignorance and conspiracies are the only way these people can think, and keep saying Jesus is coming to save us. What's bothering me? The messed up perception of all of society, on both extremes. Whatever happened to balance? To knowledge, without personal judgement?

  180. BrutalTruth says:

Kristina, we're not "poor minded" (AKA those who believe dark forces are at work in the music industry.)

And one can believe Jesus is coming to save us and still be rational, productive members of society.

But the "religious right" has severely marred the public's perception of the real Jesus so I can see where some have a "bad taste" in their mouth when it comes to that..

Anyway, one can also know what is going on in the industry and still like Lana's music.

    I do.

  181. Zas says:

@Kristina, a coin has two sides. Head and tail, bad side and good side. Some people choose to see only the good, and proclaim those who see the bad as crazies and depressed, angsty whiners. Some see only the bad and declare the others to be idiotic, fluffy cloudriders. Don't call the earth flat when its a geoid. Everyone is welcome to their opinion: yours and mine are equally important, regardless of who's correct. This site serves the purpose of information. You can decide to call it conspiracies, or you can absorb the information, process it without prejudice and make a sensible, unbiased opinion. Most people that comment here are extremists on both sides. We aren't here to cast aspersions on the sanity/ thought processes of others. The point of this comments section is to rub minds and improve our preception. This isn't a forum for insults and better-than-thou statements. The summary of life is that we will NEVER get the truth depending on human understanding (if we humans are doing such a great job ruling ourselves, then why are we still inundated by wickedness, poverty, hunger, rape and murder), but giving our dependancy to Christ. You can't knock it. A proper parent (God) seeks the happiness of his child (us), but that requires obedience and submission to the superior, more knowledgeable will. But we all assume we know it all, have seen it all, and are never wrong. We believe other humans have our best interests at heart, and that their laws are to our benefit. Ask yourself WHY music matters so much. WHY we need SO much entertainment nowadays. WHY you need that latest dress, or pair of shoes, endorsed by another human, who doesn't know any better than you. WHY their opinion should influence yours. WHY you're being distracted from the passing of bills and laws that matter, and WHY YOU NEED TO DEFEND AN "ENTERTAINER", who's making all the money they can off your 'loyalty'.

  182. Zas says:

P.S: Before someone jumps down my throat, claiming that I'm also trying to change their opinion, note that I'm ASKING, not telling. A question is meant to provoke THOUGHT, to push you to re-think your stand, from all possible angles.

  183. jamie says:

Why would you be on this site making comments if you feel this way.

  184. Anthony says:

There are certain things that someone in the know would pick up. How much of it is subconscious is debatible. On the other hand, throwing that all away, there remains a woman's explorations into different elements of the feminine, which I find unique as the album shows the different facets. To me that makes her genuine, but it creates problems for those seeking to catagorize. Her programming is "unfinished," or she is not "genuine" because she doesn't stick with one mask, she hasn't ossifed yet. I think it took amazing confidence to explore, and an inner strength of character, that is not to obvious, to actually share her inner explorations, in fact to even start looking.

I only hope that as she moves forward, the conceptal key words which are everywhere if you know how to look, get dropped as she recognises them as bars rather than feathers and she builds up her own "alphabet" more strongly.

  185. JustMyOpinion2 says:

    Well said!

  186. face in the crowd says:

The comment above was meant for "Kristina".

  187. Sarah says:

Something about her looks reminds of the adult Melissa Gilbert (used to be Laura Ingals from Little House on the Prairie)

Melissa actually doesn't know where she comes from. According to her (supposedly adoptive) parents, the phone rang one day, her soon to be father picked up the phone and he was told the baby was ready to be picked up. Her soon to be mother had no idea that there was a baby that was supposed to be arriving but she was picked up that very day in LA and they raised her as their own. It is all very strange and she has never been able to track down where she came from or how she ended up with the couple who raised her. They were quite effusive about answering her questions. She did eventually meet a man who was said to be her father but she said that he had no similarity to her in looks or personality and she didn't believe he was any relation to her. No info from an adoption agency. I wonder how many other babies were picked up like that in Los Angelas.
