I remember there was a science and technology subforum on the previous boards, so maybe VC could start a new one.
With regards to smartphones and constant texting, I do not have one. My cell phone has quite a few capabilities, but I do not use it for anything other than actually talking and checking the time. For Internet browsing, I have the computers at home for that, as well as a Tablet I got last year, but that is strictly at home as well. For people to be constantly looking at their phones and texting while walking (some even do it while driving!) and not looking where you are going is quite dangerous. At least with plain talking, I can still look where I am going.
Those who know me from the previous boards know this, but for those who were not around then, I have Asperger's syndrome, a form of autism (although some want it considered separate from the spectrum), and among the main symptoms are being shy around others and about speaking, and being introverted. So, I do not socialize well with others, and prefer to be alone most of the time. Coming up with things on the fly is quite difficult for me (though not impossible; I have been able to do it sometimes), and I have difficulty with critical thinking sometimes. I do spend quite a bit of time on the Internet, and I know firsthand how addicting it can be. But again, that is strictly at home, and when I am out on a walk or a trip, I take the time to actually look around at all the various sights.
