I used to read a lot about Roger ('Syd') Barrett, also I read a lot about people's opinions with regard to this man. And then I opened his Wiki page, while looking for something else, and found this piece:
Quote:'During 1965, they went into a studio for the first time, when a friend of Richard Wright's gave the band free time to record.[nb 2]that was back in the 60s, and from the perspective of these 50 (!!!!) years it is easier to analyse what was going on. or so it seems. Who gave them drugs? Who taught them there's no rules? Why Roger was obviously treated as a threat and was done with, while the rest of his band- 'friends' carried on, thriving, getting all the accolades, women and money? Was it his stubbornness and rejection of 'give-and-takes'? Because this seemingly healthy and young person was brought down by a compelling force, and was literally 'wiped out' and 'under the rug swept', with very little people knowing about his existence, and majority of those who knew, thinking he was some sort of a raving maniac. This practice continues with regard to other entertainment figures, and probably comes down to manipulation, handling and abuse. What do you think, people?
During this summer Barrett had his first LSD trip in the garden of friend Dave Gale, with Ian Moore and Storm Thorgerson.[nb 3] During one trip, Barrett and another friend, Paul Charrier, ended up naked in the bath, reciting: "No rules, no rules". That summer, as a consequence of the continuation of drug use, the band became absorbed in Sant Mat, a Sikh sect.'
