So after reading Hex' post about how he's enjoying Egypt so much, i suddenly remembered i have since long been
looking for typically-egyptian music. I remember seeing some documentaries on Discovery and NatGeo [years ago]
and when it was about Egypt there was always such awesome background music.

However, i have never found this style or these musics from youtube or the interwebs. all i find is 'folk' music that usually
is more belly dancing music and low-quality music that isn't at all as i'm hearing on docu's.

The closest i could ever find is music from Unreal Tournament, from Jesper Kyd, 'Tomb of Horus', 'Ghosts of Anubis', 'Pharaos Revenge'. I like them but it's more remixed, and i only like the parts containing the real egyptian style music.

my question is thus:

Is there anybody here who has a link or knows how this stuff is called [ definately not egyptian folk for example ].

* i made this thread by simlarly getting the idea that, if anybody is looking for something, they can just ask here and see if a fellow forummer actually has that. it doesn't matter what it is. just ask and see!

I know Umm Khaltoum is just about the most famous singer Egypt has ever known:

But I don't know the name of the type of music she makes; sorry..

It's not my personal taste; but it is the modern voice of Egypt.

I like the instrumental bits; but her voice is not my kind of voice.

Typically, Egyptian songs are all about the beat and the belly dancing.

Are you referring to old Egyptian singers such as Um Kalthom and Abdul Haleem?

Egypt had amazing singers during the 20th century, not so much nowadays. Do you have any link to the documentaries you watched? I might be able to help you if I listened to the music used.

Well Riddler, I don't think these are Egyptian songs. They might have been inspired by the pyramids and such or written for those specific documentaries. There are no similar Egyptian songs, not that I know of at least.

You need some Michael McCann bruv Smile from the old Deus Ex series on PS2.

That's what you need. Egyptian influenced dramatic film scores.

Hey Riddleyy

It's definitely a fusion of world music amongst other genres. Can't think of anyone specific, there are alot of unknown artists that have this kindof sound and more. It definitely is something we incorporate from time to time aswell. Best just to make your own haha. I'll link you something if I come across any x
