Just saw this for the first time. Came here to write a thread about it and saw you beat me to it
Emperor is the follow-up single to This Is Gospel. TIG made me very sad because I suspect what's shown in the video is what they actually do to him behind the scenes. Watching the Emperors New Clothes tells more to the story. I can't post vids from my phone else I would.
I think the Bredon Urie I knew and loved is dead. The Emperor has taken over. They killed the real Brendon. He begged "If you love me, let me go" in This is Gospel. He fought them every step of the way in the video, but it did him no good. Also I found it interesting how they go to cut his heart near the beginning of Gospel. They even did the heart shape with their hands on his chest so the viewer would know THAT was the target.
He first died (as far as I'm aware) in The Ballad of Mona Lisa. I guess Brendon 2.0 was still too good for their liking so they had to bring about the Emperor.
I am SO glad that sweet little Ryan Ross gtfo before they corrupted him too much. Still, am very heartbroken for Brendon. He's such an amazing frontman, very talented, very attractive when he doesn't look like a stone demon, and (sorry Creeper) guy is fluid sexuality onstage and on camera.
I really wish I'd never watched that video in the first place
It's also interesting to note that Spencer hasn't been around in a while because he's "fighting his demons in rehab." Okay, maybe I'm slightly twisting words, but Spencer (the one band member who stayed with Brendon and the Panic name when Ryan and Jon left) has been having issues with drugs and alcohol, and last I heard was in rehab. I also heard that Brendon doesn't want him back until he's feeling stronger/better. But seeing as how this appears to be the second studio album without Spencer, I'm thinking Spencer fought his demons alright. Effing Emperor says it all!
Dammit this bothers me so much! This is worse than when Ryan and Brendon parted ways!
If it wasn't for that horribly disturbing music video, I'd probably like the song. I liked it just fine until he started transforming.
Is he possessed now? Or is this a demonic clone? Brendon's dead but is it figuratively (like when the core/host of an MPD/DID system dies. They're literally dead inside, yet an alter can step up and fulfill the dominant role) or literally and he's been replaced?
Oh Brendon...if only you'd remained that nerdy looking kid and were tonedeaf
