I went to see "The Martian" last night at the theatre and before the movie played, this Pixar like animation of the UN debate room filled with anthropomorphic animals layed out the same ideas. All I could think was "since when does the UN advertise?".
Anyways, have you guys ever considered that the world is much too large a place to be controlled even to the tiniest degree by one person or a small group?
What really seems to be happening to me is that many good natured and well meaning people start a divergent thought path that eventually takes them into conflict with other good natured people, all the while dehumanizing and ostracizing them as a way to cope with the emotional and spiritual damage that inevitably occurs from such fallacy.
The real problem is not that there is no plan to end hunger and secure peace for the world, it's that there are too many plans! And each of these plans conflict with one another in some way (causing turmoil world over). The real trouble is when people give up on safety and liberty for all, and instead focus on safety and liberty for the few that they can help.
Of course horribly evil people exist, but most people who are percieved as evil are actually good people who have taken their eyes off the prize.
The only way to get everybody on the same page is to have some form of connecting ideology world over.
That being said, a one world government would be a hotbed for corruption, but is that worse than 274 individual corrupt countries?
Most of the ideas presented in the video seem like good things to me, but it sounds a bit fairy-taleish. How can they make any of this stuff happen? That's the only thing that get's me. (if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is).
I do agree that the atomic family is a bit toxic in the modern age. If you would do anything to protect your family, including killing strangers, then what hope is there for world peace? I like the idea of the whole world being a family (partly because mine is so small). Abusive atomic family that you despise? No problem! Don't go crazy and become a depraved predator feeding on the whole of humanity, you have a planet full of supportive family members that care for you! There is no brotherhood until all men are brothers.
Those who want world peace know that conflict does not stem from differences, but rather how we feel about those differences.
The entire history of earth is summed up as such: Exploring group comes across another group. Exploring group feels like they can help the found group by convincing them that their way of life is superior. The found group finds the intrusion and micromanagement of the exploring group to be insufferable and tells them that they are fine as they are. The explorers become embarrassed that their suggestions were refused (they thought no reasonable human beings would). This leads to the exploring group to conclude that the found group are not humans (ie. family) at all, but rather some manner of beast in human skin. This in turn opens the door for all kinds of atrocity, because as human beings we are conditioned to feel like we can be inhuman to those who are not family.
Differences are great! It becomes scary when people try to do something about it
