Most people won't touch these threads, which is beyond me. The act of war is politics by other means, and is good for business. The New York Stock Exchange is to be moving to Chicago, that's a fair indicator that someone has legitimate concern. I would venture to guess that New York is a very appealing target, because it's also a major port. There's a lot of factors in deciding targets when using nuclear weapons. Targeting a civilian population will cause mass demoralization and suck up resources to aid the wounded, clear the dead, and clean up the affected area. Targeting a place like Omaha will provide the terror of mass civilian casualties and render Strategic Air Command inoperable, effectively rendering Omaha a pseudo-military target. As for missile silos, your average bunker buster missile will probably do the trick to stop a launch, and really, all you need to do is ensure the doors of the silo won't open. A monkey with guts and an arc welder can do that. The one man that was being interviewed mentioned EMP, which I think is a more viable weapon to use, as the collateral damage is fairly minimum. It's generally better to capture something intact as opposed to destroying it, because you can obviously use it yourself. An EMP will also divert resources to the affected area because ANYTHING with an electrical circuit will be useless, and that's a lot of stuff. Anything plugged into an electrical outlet is especially vulnerable, because the power lines involved will essentially become an antenna to "receive" the pulse.
The point to understand about nuclear weapons is that the radiation they emit can render farmland useless. The United States has a LOT of its weaponry staged in the farmland, which I think is a smart move. Any country that would want to take out the silos themselves has to use conventional means to do so, or risk polluting the farmland, which is one of the biggest resources they would have their eyes on to use for themselves.
The all being said, with the apparent secret war we are waging with China, a mini nuke or EMP in or over NYC seems more and more plausible due to its location and vitality to American infrastructure. On the same note, unless BRICS is much stronger than we realize, targeting the stock exchange will likely be bad for the world's economy. Russia is likely not to let their lap dogs Iran or N. Korea execute an attack because of the detriment to China alone, though I may be wrong, both China and Russia have been expanding their gold reserves.
My best advice, is that those of you that are in the immediate area of a potential target have a plan to vacate the area, and have baking soda to decontaminate with, and red wine to treat radiation sickness on hand. To use the baking soda, adding two cups to a bath to wash away fallout from the skin, and the red wine is simply to be drank. The shell of any birds egg is said to have radiation repelling characteristics, making the egg itself suitable for consumption post-blast. Again, anyone reading this owes it to themselves to practice due diligence, and read up on the matters.
All and all, nuclear weapons aren't very wise to use in the broad scheme of strategy. The US claims they dropped Fatman and Little Boy to end the Pacific Theatre, but there's info out there claiming that to be false, stating it was a show of force on the part of the US, and a grand experiment to test the effects of the bomb on a live target. I wouldn't doubt that one bit.
I hope this is some what informational to those looking for answers.
